Though they do so, the Victor's mind did not change. The snake makes the sound of an elephant, Likewise, the elephant makes the sound of a snake, But they could not harm that guide, Nor could they create any obstacles. At that time, the swan makes the sound of a lion, Likewise, the domestic bird makes the sound of a hawk, But they could not harm that guide, Nor could they create any obstacles. The horse makes the sound of a mule, Likewise, the heron makes the sound of a crow, But they could not harm that guide, Nor could they create any obstacles. The elephant makes the sound of an owl and a heron, The bird and the best of the assembly make the sound of a crane. At that time, the vulture makes the sound of "Ijimha", The bird and the best of the assembly make the sound of "Bheri". From the mouth of the swan come all sounds, Likewise, the cuckoo makes all the sounds of yakshas. At that time, all pottery makes sounds, Likewise, from one mouth come all sounds. From the shape of the mouth comes that sound, In an instant, limitless sounds are made, But they could not harm that guide, Nor could they create any obstacles. From the mouth of the naga falls a rain of stones, Likewise, a rain of fierce weapons falls, But they could not harm that guide, Nor could they create any obstacles. From the mouth of the yaksha falls a rain of stones, Likewise, a rain of fiercely burning fire falls, Likewise, a rain of mountains and fly-whisks falls, But the Sugata could not be obstructed. The pottery falls a rain of arrows, and likewise, A rain of burning fire and weapons falls, But they could not harm that guide, Nor could they create any obstacles. At that time, the evil Mara, Harassed with extremely unpleasant appearances, But generating immeasurable effort and strength, Relied on the power of Mara, realized enlightenment. The Self-Arisen discouraged the hosts of Mara, Under the supreme tree, sat in an unseparated lotus posture, Destroying them like feathers scattered by the wind, Realized supreme enlightenment, benefiting beings. At that time, the earth shook in six ways, Those difficult-to-approach hosts sought refuge in all directions, Like birds carried away by the king of winds, The Sugata...

Destroyed completely by the splendor of. Those Nagas, Yakshas, and Rakshasas, At that time, manifested various faces. With the glory of those who served Mara, Destroyed those who created obstacles. How did I destroy the daughters of Mara? I aged these women there, Likewise, the difficult-to-serve power of Mara transformed itself. Became destroyed by the power of serving Mara. In the presence of the Sugata, the supreme one, the sons of gods were filled with transformations, Subdued by the one who guides the world. All eighty trillion daughters of gods, Were placed in Bodhi by serving Mara. Having been tamed and abiding in unwavering Bodhi. At that time, being difficult to serve became suffering. At that time, after serving Mara arose, I liberated those beings. Thus, through my effort, At that time, I overcame the difficult-to-defeat Mara. When seeking the stainless, supreme peace of Bodhi, My sons should learn in this way. One should work for the benefit of many millions of sentient beings, And never seek happiness for oneself. Just as one does not think of others when one's head is on fire, A man should generate effort like extinguishing a fire. Thus, when seeking supreme peace, One should contemplate with the mind, with the mind. Then the Naga king Great Moon requested the Bhagavan with verses: Teacher of humans and gods, tamer of beings, Together with the gods, the guide of this world, How did the Sugata, the mindful one, come to be born? I ask how one attains unsurpassed Bodhi? The guide, the capable one, here overcomes existence. How was the guide, the Sugata, born to me? Mara is the deluder, touching Nirvana, Predicted by the Victorious One, the supreme being. If one establishes mindfulness and binds the mind, The wandering of beings in afflicted samsara will cease. An ignorant person is attached to whatever, Does not know happiness and touches suffering. A person with impaired mindfulness, in that samsara, An ignorant person remembers the suffering of samsara. That ignorant one does not know the path of liberation, Delights in the realm of the afflictive Mara. With a perverted and corrupted mind, Holding impermanence as permanence, suffering as happiness, Selflessness as self, and impurity as purity, One is not liberated from the realm of the afflictive Mara.
