The Tathagata, with what knowledge does he fully know, comprehend, and realize the realm of nose consciousness, and also truly knows its cessation as it is? If one dwells in the contemplation of tastelessness, or dwells in the contemplation of faults, or dwells in the contemplation of definite departure, then the Tathagata truly knows. The Tathagata knows the realm of nose consciousness and also knows the path that leads to its cessation. If someone asks about this, answering from the beginning of the kalpa, it is as if he will enjoy the place between the sandalwood corridor and the pavilion. Householder, how does the Tathagata truly know the realm of the tongue? Householder, the Tathagata truly knows this: the purity that is caused by the grasping of the four great elements is the maturation of the tongue. The birth place of the tongue, where taste appears, and taste is also an obstacle, where the tongue has an obstacle to taste, where the tongue has no obstacle to taste, taste is tasted, where the tongue tastes taste, taste will be tasted, for the sake of tasting taste, where is the tongue that is always undifferentiated and suitable, which is the tongue realm among the eighteen realms, which is the tongue place among the twelve places, which is the tongue faculty among the twenty-two faculties, that is the tongue, that is the tongue realm, that is the tongue place, that is the tongue faculty, that is the door, that is the white, that is the constant, that is the lake, that is the ocean, that is the space, that is the appearance, that is the aquatic, that is the guide, that is the conductor, that is the field, that is the thing, that is the cavity, that is the secret, that is the non-other shore, that is the vessel of Mara, that is entering into the self's thing, that is entering into the upper part of the city, that is to be realized, that is to be fully known, that is to be abandoned.

That is called the tongue element. Regarding it, whether it is knowing, seeing, clarity, direct realization, truly understanding, or being wise, this is called knowing the tongue element. The Tathagata completely knows it as it truly is. If someone were to ask the Tathagata about the knowledge of the tongue element, from the beginning of the kalpa, the answer would be given until he could enjoy the space between the sandalwood cloisters and the pavilions. Householder, how does the Tathagata completely know the arising of the knowledge of the tongue element as it truly is? Householder, here, the Tathagata completely knows it in this way: by generating roots of virtue in the presence of immeasurable Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, he completely knows as it truly is the cause and condition for the true accomplishment of the knowledge of the arising of the tongue element. Householder, furthermore, the Tathagata completely knows it in this way: by what cause and what condition does the knowledge of the arising of the tongue element truly accomplish, he completely knows those causes and conditions as they truly are. If he abides in observing impermanence, or if he abides in refuting, the Tathagata completely knows it as it truly is. If someone were to ask about the Tathagata's knowledge of the arising of the tongue element, from the beginning of the kalpa, the answer would be given until he could enjoy the space between the sandalwood cloisters and the pavilions. Householder, how does the Tathagata completely know the cessation of the knowledge of the tongue element as it truly is? Householder, here, the Tathagata completely knows it in this way: having done what is beneficial for immeasurable beings, having averted what is not beneficial, having brought light, having dispelled darkness, having completely liberated immeasurable beings from the ocean of suffering, and having placed them in happiness, this is the knowledge of the cessation of the knowledge of the tongue element, and it is also the nature of the Dharma that has not arisen from the beginning. Householder, in this way, the Tathagata completely knows the knowledge of the cessation of the knowledge of the tongue element as it truly is. If someone were to ask again about the Tathagata's knowledge of the cessation of the knowledge of the tongue element,
