It was proclaimed. Therefore, existence is impermanent, compounded, and arises dependently. When one attends to it properly in that way, one obtains forbearance towards the unlocated, unborn Dharma. As many sentient beings as hear the sound of the unlocated, all of them become irreversible from unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. Son of Maudgalyayana, what do you think? At that time, was the sage named 'Delighting in Existence' someone else? You should not see it that way, for I was him. I caused countless trillions of beings to hear the sound of the unlocated, and I made them irreversible from unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. Son of Maudgalyayana, therefore, a Bodhisattva should train in the unlocated nature of existence. One should also proclaim the praise of the unlocated nature of existence to others. Son of Maudgalyayana, in order to know the defilements of existence, in order to know their arising, from 'should' to 'manifest accumulation', and similarly, up to 'how I', one should add. Son of Maudgalyayana, in the past, in the past era, on the far shore beyond that, there was a sage named 'Pacifier of Existence', from 'with great power', who, by other paths, was separated from attachment to desires, and a person who did not aim for existence appeared. Then, the sage 'Pacifier of Existence' thought: 'If there is pacification of existence, that would be good for me.' But he did not understand the pacification of existence either, and he thought: 'How can existence be destroyed? In the world, who is the renunciant or Brahmin who truly understands the pacification of existence?' At that time, the sage named 'Knower of Existence', if he truly understood the pure mind of the 'Pacifier of Existence' that was fully in accordance with the path, he would not tell others. Why is that? Because he had already separated from attachment to the tumult of existence. The sage 'Pacifier of Existence' heard that the sage 'Knower of Existence' had separated from attachment to the tumult of existence, and he thought: 'If separation from attachment to the tumult of existence is happiness, then what is the so-called tumult of existence?

Those tumultuous activities that are the nature of afflictions are the tumultuous activities of existence. Thinking that the wise condemn them, when he truly sees the conduct of those wise ones, he subsequently attains freedom from desire. Then, arising from that samadhi, he utters a sound, saying, 'Alas! Freedom from the desire for tumultuous activity is bliss!' He proclaims that sound. That sound is carried by the wind in all four directions without obstruction. Countless beings, upon hearing that sound, become irreversible from unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. Maudgalyayana's son, what do you think? At that time, at that time, do you think that the ascetic called 'Pacifier of Existence' was someone else? You should not think that way, for I, at that time, at that time, was that ascetic called 'Pacifier of Existence.' My sound made countless beings irreversible from unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. Maudgalyayana's son, therefore, a bodhisattva should thoroughly condemn tumultuous activity. A bodhisattva who thoroughly condemns tumultuous activity will quickly become irreversible from unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. Maudgalyayana's son, 'I, for the sake of knowing the flaws of existence, for the sake of knowing how to prevent them,' thus connect it, up to 'completely assembled.' Maudgalyayana's son, in the past, in the distant past, there was an ascetic called 'Wise Hero,' who was fearless in all knowledge, mastered all treatises, whose wisdom was very firm, who grasped the essence of all treatises, and who had received all teachings. He thought thus: 'If all flaws do not arise, then they will certainly be prevented.' This is the key: those who study to prevent the aggregates, elements, sources, faculties, and truths, they have entered for the sake of preventing the aggregates. Thus connect it, having entered for the sake of preventing the elements, sources, faculties, and truths. Whoever thoroughly understands this key has done the work of the wise, the key of the aggregates.
