Knowing death, preventing knowing death, is called being skilled. When I thoroughly revealed the equality of the three times, infinite trillions of sentient beings were thoroughly established in the forbearance of the dharma of non-arising. Maudgalyayana's son, therefore, a bodhisattva who wishes to fully awaken to the unexcelled, perfectly complete enlightenment, should teach the dharma of the equality of the three times. Sentient beings should be made to enter into the equality of the three times. A bodhisattva who has made sentient beings enter into the equality of the three times will quickly become irreversible from the unexcelled, perfectly complete enlightenment. Maudgalyayana's son, for the purpose of knowing the path that will prevent knowing death, starting from the previous conduct of a bodhisattva, combine it in that way, up to the point of manifest aggregation. Combine it in that way, up to the point of thinking how I should correctly explain it. Maudgalyayana's son, from countless eons of the past that occurred previously, on the far shore of that, even further beyond, there arose a brahmin named Chandra-nanda, like a great sala tree. His parents were extremely pure, he did not abandon the place of his wife's birth, he recited, he held the three Vedas, together with the certain combination of sounds and clear knowledge, and the fifth, which is the thorough distinction of letters. Having previously gone to the other shore, predicting the basis of abandoning the world, the lineage of offerings, and the marks of a great man, following and fully knowing, the words of the three knowledges were without diminution. Obtaining and holding the miraculous powers of the ripening of karma. Living by begging. Universally inciting all the heretics. Thinking, 'I should live by begging,' he filled the bellies of all sentient beings. He made a thousand feasts in a day. He also made two thousand, three thousand, four thousand, and five thousand feasts in a day. By that method, he thoroughly accomplished the offering of the moon for eight hundred thousand years, and for eight hundred thousand years, to whomever his mind was completely weakened, he did not fully inquire to whom he should make offerings. At that time, the Thus-Gone One, separated from all sorrows, named Thus-Gone One, arose up to the Buddha, the Bhagavan.

The Tathagata, free from all sorrows, had an assembly like the stars. The assembly of Bodhisattvas was also like the stars. Then, the Brahmin Chandrananda, like a great Sala tree, thought to himself: "In my sacrificial ground, most extraordinary things can enter. Only the Shravakas of the Tathagata, free from all sorrows, cannot enter, and the Tathagata, free from all sorrows, also cannot enter. What means are there to make the Tathagata, free from all sorrows, and the Sangha of Shravakas enter my sacrificial ground? I should contemplate my sacrifice. What fault or transgression of the sacrifice prevents the Tathagata, free from all sorrows, and the Sangha of Shravakas from entering this sacrificial ground?" He thought to himself: "The Tathagata, free from all sorrows, and the Sangha of Shravakas eat at the proper time, while my great offering is mixed with what has already been completed. Perhaps it is because of this fault that the Tathagata cannot enter my sacrificial ground." Then, the Brahmin Chandrananda, like a great Sala tree, rose early the next morning, surrounded by many Brahmins and Brahmin women, and led the way to where the Tathagata, free from all sorrows, was. Surrounded by many Brahmins, they all rode in chariots drawn by white mares. After riding the chariots for a certain distance, they dismounted and walked on foot to where the Tathagata, free from all sorrows, was. He saw the Tathagata, free from all sorrows, dwelling and sitting under another tree, beautiful and handsome, with subdued senses, a subdued mind, peaceful, having attained excellent quiescence and discipline, having attained supreme quiescence and discipline, hidden, like a tamed elephant, like a lake without turbidity and perfectly clear, blazing like a golden stupa. Having seen this, he thought to himself: "That I have recognized the Tathagata, free from all sorrows, as a Sangha of Bhikshus, is that I have obtained a bad gain, and have not obtained a good gain."
