exists. Renunciation exists, and here, savoring, faults, and renunciation are observed. Therefore, renunciation from all formations exists. The basis of the teachings of the Buddha Bhagavan, namely, the perfection of renunciation, savoring, faults, and renunciation, savoring in the eye source, faults, and renunciation, up to the mind source. Similarly, combining smell, taste, touch, and the dharma source, savoring, faults, and renunciation exist. Therefore, the Bodhisattva should thus discern the savoring, faults, and renunciation of all dharmas. Now, when one attends in accordance with this, he will obtain forbearance of the unarisen dharma. He rises from that samadhi and dwells in villages, cities, towns, and the palaces of kings. When he teaches the Dharma of obtaining forbearance of the unarisen to sentient beings, he establishes countless millions of sentient beings in the forbearance of the unarisen. Maudgalyayana's son, what do you think? Do you think that the ascetic Brahmin named the god of power who became at that time was someone else? You should not look at it that way, I at that time became the ascetic Brahmin named the god of power. I have thoroughly established those countless millions of creatures in the forbearance of the Dharma of non-birth. Maudgalyayana's son, therefore, a Bodhisattva should strive to obtain the forbearance of the Dharma of non-birth. In order to enable others to obtain the forbearance of the Dharma of non-birth, the Dharma should be taught. Maudgalyayana's son, in order to know the path that will prevent knowing the later end, how should I, having manifestly awakened to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, properly and thoroughly teach? Thinking this, I manifestly accumulated immeasurable roots of virtue. Maudgalyayana's son, from immeasurable past eons ago, on the far shore of that, there was a mendicant named Delightful Outcaste, who had great magical powers and great splendor, and was powerful and had five superknowledges.

Having gone alone to a solitary place, he entered into meditation, and thought thus: "These dharmas have no distinctions of caste or lineage. For the nature of dharma, there is no distinction between dharma and non-dharma. These dharmas have no distinctions of merit and non-merit. Wherever dharma is perceived, that is where dharma abides. What is merit? What is non-merit? Regret at the time of death is non-merit. Joy at the time of death is merit. Therefore, if a wise person wishes to manifest karma, that karma should be manifested. Whoever manifests joy will not be afraid or terrified." Thinking thus, he arose from that samadhi and went to the ten directions of the world, proclaiming this sound to those beings: "The wise do not fear or dread the dharma of non-arising. They do not become terrified. But those who are like children, ordinary people without learning, should be known to be afraid. Why is that? Because the essence of dharma is not perceived at all. For that which has essence and that which has no essence, there is no birth and no cessation. Therefore, whoever desires to endure must definitely acknowledge one aspect. This is called endurance of the dharma of non-arising. Therefore, do not be afraid, do not be terrified, do not be hesitant. Do not engage in the realm of Mara, do not indulge in it. Whoever accepts what is not the true dharma as true, that is the realm of Mara." When I spoke that dharma, countless trillions of beings obtained endurance of the dharma of non-arising and became irreversible from unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Maudgalyayana's son, what do you think? Do you think that the ascetic of the outcaste, named Delightful, who existed at that time, was someone else? You should not think that way. I was the ascetic of the outcaste, named Delightful, at that time. I firmly established countless trillions of beings in the endurance of the dharma of non-arising. Maudgalyayana's son, therefore, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva should teach the Dharma in order to obtain endurance of the dharma of non-arising. That is also for beings.

You should make many assemblies properly uphold. Maudgalyayana's son, in order to know death, when I practiced the conduct of a Bodhisattva in the past, I thought, after I attain the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment, how should I correctly reveal the method of knowing death to sentient beings? So I accumulated various immeasurable roots of virtue. Maudgalyayana's son, in the past, countless eons ago, even far beyond that, there was a king named Righteous Sage Ocean of Wisdom, who had great supernatural powers, great splendor, and great power, and was free from attachment to various desires through external paths, was full of love for the world, and truly abided in it. He thought: Why do I live in the forest meaninglessly? I should divide all these forests into three parts: one part for those with wind disorders, the second part for those with phlegm disorders, and the third part for those with bile disorders. He also thought: I should search for tastes in all these forests, seeing that these tastes are sour, salty, sweet, bitter, pungent, and astringent. What is the forest? What is the measure of taste? At that time, all the forest gods appeared to him with their palms together, bowed to his feet with their heads, and each stated their own taste: Those forests of trees that bear a sour taste speak of sourness; those that bear a salty taste speak of saltiness; those that bear a bitter taste speak of bitterness; those that bear a pungent taste speak of pungency; those that bear an astringent taste speak of astringency; those that bear a sweet taste speak of sweetness. He thought: The forest gods have all truthfully stated their own tastes, so how many kinds of diseases arise in sentient beings? He also thought: There are four kinds of diseases that arise in sentient beings: wind disorders, bile disorders, phlegm disorders, and mixed disorders. If summarized, there are three: wind disorders, bile disorders, and phlegm disorders.
