Do you enjoy using other people's things to the fullest? Not knowing the nature of my own suffering, I am deceived by non-dharma. Don't you consider these terrible things gathered by suffering? The attendant friend urged him in this way. After hearing these words, following his heart, he kept all those faults in his heart, and said to him: Attendant friend, it is good, good that you instruct me! Accumulating wealth now is suffering, attendant friend, therefore one should truly accumulate one's own wealth. He said to his parents: Father and mother, I will go to trade and be able to do the work of a captain. Then the parents said: Young man, do not go elsewhere! There are countless disadvantages to a son going elsewhere! The very large amount of family property accumulated from seven generations ago exists without confusion. You should enjoy those things, and do not do anything to go elsewhere! A son going elsewhere, and truly accumulating wealth, that also has much suffering! Young man, do not leave here, use wealth to do the work of wealth! He said: Father, it is not like that, you are not speaking correctly. Why is that? If the wealth sought by my seven generations of ancestors, did the son not use it all up? The wealth sought by the sixth generation of ancestors, did the son not use it all up? The wealth acquired by the fifth generation of ancestors, did the son not use it all up? The wealth acquired between grandfather and father, did grandfather not use it all up? The wealth acquired by father's father, did father not use it all up? Similarly, I am also unwilling to enjoy the wealth acquired by relatives. Disregarding his parents' wishes, he went with the merchants of a large ship, and after he entered the great ocean, the wind blew the ship to the island of jewels. He filled the large ship with various priceless jewels. After his journey was very successful, he returned, crossed the ocean, and as he approached the ocean, the jewel he wore on his hand fell into the great ocean.

Therefore, at the very moment that precious jewel fell, he took up a water scoop, thinking, "For the sake of this precious jewel, today I must dry up this ocean!" So, he took up the water scoop and began to dry up the great ocean. As soon as he took up the water scoop, billions of gods came to help him, and the wind also came to help, and the fire also came to help. Then, as soon as he scooped up the water with the water scoop, the wind dried it up, and the fire burned it. Then, the gods of the ocean spoke in verses: This ocean is boundless and inexhaustible, it will not change in the slightest, the ocean is not like that. Friend, just as one desires to measure the path of the sky, how is it possible to dry up the ocean? He then replied to those ocean gods in verses: Gods, the ocean is not boundless, the extent of the ocean can be measured. I have boundless and immeasurable diligence, I can dry up this great ocean. Ocean gods, look at my power! Look at the sky filled with gods! Countless gods are my friends, they blaze and burn, and also become wind. Look at me scattering water into the sky! Look at that sky, there is nothing there! The assembly of gods will become my friends, they will burn and dry up the water in the sky. The wind in the sky is my friend, I will not shrink back from drying up the ocean. If the ocean does not give up my jewel, I have the power of the place of merit, my place of merit is the Buddha Jewel, the unelaborated Dharma of liberation, and the son of the guide—the precious Sangha. They will become mine, not the ocean god's. This man, your words are true, it is good that you have the power of diligence, you will obtain the jewel and give alms, today offer it to the Three Jewels! Maudgalyayana's son, what do you think? At that time, at that time, the one who became known as the captain beggar, do you think he was someone else? You should not look at it that way, why? Because I, at that time, at that time, was the captain's son, known as beggar. Maudgalyayana's son, therefore the Bodhisattva should be diligent.

To be written. Maudgalyayana's son, a Bodhisattva who is not lazy and initiates diligence is able to overcome the five demons. What are the five? They are as follows: the demon of afflictions, the demon of aggregates, the demon of karma, the demon of death, and the demon of the son of the gods. Maudgalyayana, for the sake of my knowing diligence and knowing the origin of all things, in the past, when Bodhisattvas practiced, they manifestly accumulated countless kinds of roots of virtue. Maudgalyayana, in the past, countless eons ago, beyond that, there was a king named Grags Bzang (Name Excellent), a king of Dharma, endowed with Dharma, long-lived, living long, endowed with the seven precious things, endowed with the four riches of men, the master of six hundred thousand women, controlling all the thoughts of beings, who had served countless Tathagatas, endowed with immeasurable accumulated roots of virtue, and had generated roots of virtue towards countless thousands of Buddhas. At that time, from the Tathagata named Infinite Light, until the Buddha Bhagavan, they appeared in the world. The retinue of that Tathagata Infinite Light were Shravaka Arhats, those who had exhausted defilements, without afflictions, who had become empowered, and so on, and those who were liberated by right knowledge numbered eighty kotis nayutas. The lifespan of that Tathagata Infinite Light was immeasurable. At that time, from the kingdom of King Grags Bzang (Name Excellent), named Victory Everywhere, ninety-nine kotis nayutas of beings shaved their hair and beards in front of that Tathagata, wore saffron robes, and went forth from home to homelessness. All of them were born into happiness, and those who were not lazy also became old. Then, that Tathagata Infinite Light, together with the previous Sangha of monks, went to where those monks were, and after arriving, sat in the middle of the Sangha of monks. At that time, he was fully endowed with the ability to know diligence and to know the origin of all things.
