The earth also relinquished its power, and with its head bowed in reverence at the feet of the all-knowing wise one, it prepared a seat of wisdom, holding it firmly with both hands, and placed the wise one upon that seat to speak wisdom. Having seated him, being filled with the desire for knowledge, it showed great respect. Then, to the all-knowing sage, it posed questions in metered verse: In all knowledge, you have no fear. Where does the speaker of knowledge reside? Where was I born, and what doubts do I have? By doing what virtuous deeds can I benefit all sentient beings? And the conduct of all sentient beings, the knowledge of strength and non-strength, by what means do you possess the supreme knowledge? Having heard, there is no turning back. By what knowledge is one fully aware? I beseech you for great wisdom. Please tell me of those wise ones, who possess the power of knowledge, who are fearless in all knowledge, and when compassion arises, they give predictions as they are. They are not miserly with the gift of Dharma, and they also completely gather wisdom. They rejoice in those who possess wisdom, and they diligently accumulate giving. They also desire much knowledge, and they diligently accumulate giving. Those who seek the wisdom of knowledge will attain that sacred wisdom. The wise one understands knowledge through wisdom, and the intelligent one comprehends knowledge. Knowing the path that leads to cessation, quickly arises samadhi. Maudgalyayana's son, what do you think? At that time, at that moment, do you think that the beggar named Light Good was that person? You should not think that way. At that time, at that moment, I was the beggar named Light Good. Maudgalyayana's son, what do you think? At that time, at that moment, do you think that the sage named All-Knowing, who spoke of wisdom, was someone else? You should not think that way. The Tathagata Dipamkara, at that time, was the one named All-Knowing, who spoke of wisdom. Maudgalyayana's son, therefore, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who desires to realize the knowledge of strength and non-strength, and to know the path that leads to cessation, should be one who upholds the precepts correctly. He should also desire the light of wisdom, and he should also completely abandon the distractions of the world. Maudgalyayana's son, for the sake of knowing diligence, I have practiced the conduct of a Bodhisattva in the past.

When practicing diligence, I thought about how to realize diligence for the benefit of all sentient beings, and thus accumulated countless various roots of virtue. In the past, countless eons ago, there was a son of Maudgalyayana. Even further beyond that, there was a caravan leader named "Sölangden," who was wealthy, had abundant possessions, enjoyed great prosperity, and was free from defilements from the beginning. He had a son who was skilled in all the crafts of a caravan leader. His father thought, "How can I not be separated from such a son? Because I have wealth that will not be exhausted for seven generations, this young man will live comfortably." As soon as he was born, the parents of some merchants' children who were born at the same time gave them to him as playmates. "Son, play happily with these playmates and enjoy yourselves!" He was taught all the crafts in his own home, including writing, arithmetic, numbers, commercial terms, farming terms, artisan terms, all artisan skills, and even the skills of servants. He learned all the crafts, mastered all forms of art, and learned sixty-four arts. He played and frolicked with his playmates, and because he was proficient in all the arts, he taught everything he had learned to his playmates. Then, one of his playmates urged him with truthful words: "Young man, do you not know the faults of going elsewhere? Do you not know that you will be refuted by others? Do you not know the faults of going to other places without relatives or friends? Do you not know the faults of the wilderness? Do you not know the faults of quiet places by the water? Do you not know the faults of scarce food, scarce drinks, and unbearable thirst? Do you not know the faults of unfriendly quiet places and disturbances by thieves? Do you not know the faults of disturbances by ferocious beasts? Do you not know the faults of being disturbed by water and the sinking of large ships sailing on the ocean? Do you not know the terror of being threatened by rakshasa women and the way to be completely free from all harm? Young man!"
