He abandoned the riding horses, and likewise abandoned countless riding chariots. He abandoned countless foot soldiers. Therefore, in order to hold that intermediate path assembly, I generated countless roots of virtue. If that root of virtue were to become a tangible object, even a world system filled with grains of sand from the Ganges River would not be able to contain it. Maudgalyayana's son, in the past, countless eons ago, beyond that, even further beyond, there was a king named Joyful Vision, who ruled over the four-continent world system. His four-continent world system became very prosperous, and each continent had eight million cities. Each city was ten leagues long and ten leagues wide, square in shape, extremely elaborate, painted with various designs, covered with golden threads, with walls made entirely of precious jewels, the ramparts made of gold from the Jambudvipa River, the top was richly covered with nets of priceless jewels, the ground was spread with priceless jewels, and richly covered with nets of chiming bells made of the seven precious substances. It was a place where countless beings accumulated roots of virtue, richly covered with trees of the seven precious substances. Inside and out, it was full of enjoyment, and when people desired to play, they could enjoy whatever they wished, fully enjoying the five objects of desire, and at that time the sound of the five objects of desire would arise. When it was appropriate to enjoy with lutes and cymbals, at that time the sound of lutes and cymbals would arise. When they desired to enjoy the music of the Gandharvas, at that time the music of the Gandharvas would be played. Whatever games they desired to play extensively, those very games would appear. If they desired to play for a year, or a thousand years, or ten thousand years, they could play to their heart's content, and it would always continue without interruption. Such was the prosperity of that city, and all the cities were filled with those pleasures. At that time, the Tathagata Ambrosial Light appeared.

Thus, he had eight hundred thousand Bhikshu attendants. Then, King Gathom adorned this four-continent world with silk fabrics and decorated all the lands very beautifully. He offered the Blessed One, the Tathagata Ambrosia Rays, along with the Bhikshu Sangha, for the sake of the enjoyment of the former people. I also offered my son, wife, and retinue. There, the Blessed One, along with the Bhikshu Sangha, eight hundred thousand Bhikshus, and countless Buddhas, resided. Moreover, King Gathom satisfied them for eight million years with a hundred kinds of delicious food. The queen and retinue also made offerings. Maudgalyayana's son, what do you think? Do you think that the king Gathom who existed at that time was someone else? You should not think that way, for I was the king Gathom at that time. Maudgalyayana's son, do great deeds, for through that root of virtue, I gained knowledge and understood the path that prevents the consciousness of the senses. Maudgalyayana's son, therefore, a Bodhisattva should have faith in the Buddha and the Bhikshu Sangha. Obtaining faith will bring about the accomplishment of the means of happiness for countless immeasurable kalpas, and Buddhahood will also be accomplished. Maudgalyayana's son, in order to know the powers, when I was practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva in the past, I accumulated immeasurable roots of virtue, wishing to know the powers and non-powers of the senses of all sentient beings. Maudgalyayana's son, in the immeasurable past aeons, beyond that, even further beyond, there was a king named Lion Wisdom, a king of Dharma, endowed with Dharma, who completely ruled the four continents, possessed faith, was skilled in all treatises, delighted in the source of merit, and skilled in all the sounds of benefactors. He gathered all the ascetics and Brahmins in the world and feasted them with a hundred kinds of delicious food, and also covered them with Kashi cloth. Skilled in all treatises.

Therefore, he also thoroughly observes the mental conduct of sentient beings. He also thoroughly engages in the power of wisdom and non-power. In order to thoroughly know the power of knowing its power and non-power, he also makes offerings to sentient beings with special knowledge. Then, in order to know the power and non-power of King Lion's Wisdom, he constantly gave alms day and night for eighty thousand years, and also asked the ascetics and Brahmins. He also closely examined the knowledge of power and non-power to those who speak of knowledge. Maudgalyayana's son, what do you think? At that time, at that moment, if you think that the one who became King Lion's Wisdom was someone else, you should not think that way. I was the one who became King Lion's Wisdom at that time. Maudgalyayana's son, therefore, if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva wants to know the power and non-power of the senses, he should make offerings to those who have knowledge, and he should also thoroughly engage in the knowledge of power and non-power. Maudgalyayana's son, for the sake of knowing power and non-power, when I practiced the conduct of a Bodhisattva in the past, after I attained the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, I thought, 'How should I know the power of sentient beings?' and I accumulated countless kinds of wish-fulfilling good roots. Maudgalyayana's son, in the past, countless eons ago, far beyond that, there was a Brahmin named the Lord of Power, like a great Sala tree, rich and with many possessions, enjoying great abundance, gathering many learned people, and having great respect for knowledge. He gathered those who were particularly fond of reciting ascetics and Brahmins, knowing the distinctions, knowing the distinctions of intellectual power, knowing the distinctions of the order of diligence, having great respect for knowledge, he created joy among them, thinking about how knowledge would not be wasted, and he greatly encouraged those who were diligent. He made tens of thousands of beings know
