If it is done, it is manifested through very careful observation. He truly knows which root manifests the karma, that root. If from the side of desire, which root prevents the arising of desire, he also truly knows that root. If it is small, medium, or large. If a small root is used to prevent small afflictions, if a small root is used to prevent medium afflictions, if a small root is used to prevent large afflictions. If a medium root is used to prevent small afflictions, if a medium root is used to prevent medium afflictions, if a medium root is used to prevent large afflictions. If a large root is used to prevent small afflictions, if a large root is used to prevent medium afflictions, if a large root is used to prevent large afflictions, he also truly knows that root. He possesses that wisdom, and because he manifested that karma, he did not fall back in eighty kalpas. Maudgalyāyana's son, what do you think? At that time, at that time, the one called the Brahman King God, who had become like a great sala tree, do you think that was someone else? You should not think that way, for I, at that time, at that time, became the one called the Brahman King God. At that time, I also learned to know the roots of sentient beings, and now, having manifested enlightenment in unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, I truly know the roots of sentient beings. Maudgalyāyana's son, therefore, a Bodhisattva should learn to know the roots of sentient beings. A Bodhisattva who learns to know the roots does not regress and quickly attains unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Twenty-first chapter. Maudgalyāyana's son, in order to know that I know the arising of the roots, in the past, when a Bodhisattva practiced the Bodhisattva conduct, he manifested various inconceivable roots of virtue.

There was someone named Chandra Deva (ཟླ་བའི་ལྷ་). His daughter, named Chandra Devi (ཟླ་བའི་ལྷ་མོ་), was intelligent and mindful, engaged in the affairs of a king, and succeeded her father's kingdom. Then, King Chandra Deva (ཟླ་བའི་ལྷ་) said to his daughter: "Daughter, by what cause is the perfect understanding of the arising of the senses accomplished? I ask you, how can one truly obtain the understanding of the arising of the senses?" She said to him: "If one attends to and reveres the ascetics and Brahmins who are virtuous and extremely learned, then the perfect understanding of the arising of the senses will be accomplished. Why? Because attending to and revering those virtuous and learned ascetics and Brahmins will increase wisdom, and one will learn that wisdom. Therefore, the perfect understanding of the arising of the senses will be accomplished." Then, King Chandra Deva (ཟླ་བའི་ལྷ་), having heard that prophecy, was pleased, delighted, and rejoiced with the beggars, and having greatly rejoiced, he obtained unwavering faith. What do you think, son of Maudgalyayana? Do you think that the one who became the daughter of Chandra Deva (ཟླ་བའི་ལྷ་) at that time was someone else? You should not think that way, because at that time I became the daughter of King Chandra Deva (ཟླ་བའི་ལྷ་). At that time, I also became knowledgeable about the arising of the senses, and now I also know perfectly the arising of the senses as it is, and I have also truly taught it to sentient beings. Therefore, son of Maudgalyayana, a Bodhisattva should strive for the understanding of the arising of the senses. Son of Maudgalyayana, in order to know the cessation of the senses, I accumulated various roots of virtue when I practiced the conduct of a Bodhisattva in the past. Son of Maudgalyayana, in the past, in a bygone era, far, far beyond that, there was a sage named Kun Jung (ཀུན་འབྱུང་), who possessed five supernormal powers. When he was practicing austerities in the forest, he thought to himself: 'By what wisdom can the senses be stopped and not arise again?' He thought to himself

Know that, with the wisdom of the noble ones, one fully understands the cessation of the senses, the non-arising of the knowledge of the cessation of the senses. For example, when a person's head is cut off, the head does not grow back. Similarly, when the senses cease, the senses do not arise again, thinking that this is the knowledge of the cessation of the senses. If one wants to fully understand the senses with that wisdom, one cannot find that wisdom. He thinks like this: I must definitely seek that wisdom by which one fully understands the senses and does not arise again. In order to fully understand that wisdom, he went to visit those ascetics and Brahmins who were content with little desire, little activity, and lived in solitude, and asked: Friends, with what wisdom can one fully understand the senses and not arise again? They said: Friends, we also do not know with what wisdom one can fully understand the senses and not arise again. He thought like this: I should generate the wisdom myself that can fully understand the senses and not arise again. In order to seek that wisdom, he completely gave away countless things that were difficult to give away, even giving away his head and eyes, but still did not find that wisdom. Son of Maudgalyayana, what do you think? Do you think that the sage named "All-Born" who became at that time was another person? You should not think that way. Why? Because I became the sage named "All-Born" at that time. I wanted to realize the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, so I found the wisdom by which one fully understands the senses and does not arise again, which is the wisdom of the noble path. Son of Maudgalyayana, therefore, a Bodhisattva should strive to seek with what wisdom of the noble ones one can fully understand
