At a distance of ten kotis of nayutas and a thousand kotis, there is a city called 'Mount Sumeru Banner'. There, the Tathagata named Amitabha (Wylie: 'od zer dpag med) resides and is near. I will go there to see and pay homage to that Tathagata. The ministers, listening to the wishes of the householder who desired solitude, prepared excellent vehicles. After preparing, they reported: 'Master, if you know when to depart, we have prepared excellent vehicles.' Then, the householder who desired solitude, like a great sala tree, rode on an excellent vehicle and set out from his own city. Wherever he went, all the people followed behind him. He went to where the Bhagavan, the Tathagata Amitabha, was. By the power of the Buddha, the gods of the Pure Abodes would completely provide service. At that time, in the direction of the city of Mount Sumeru Banner, there was a garden called 'Beautiful in Every Way', where the Tathagata resided. Thus, because the Tathagata resided there, that garden was radiant and bright, visible from a great distance. He traveled by vehicle for the corresponding distance, got off the vehicle, and began to circumambulate on foot, then walked forward. He entered the garden Beautiful in Every Way on foot. When he entered that garden, by the power of the Buddha, cool and pleasant winds arose, and showers of fragrant water visibly fell. Then, the Tathagata Amitabha, knowing the thoughts of the householder who desired solitude, like a great sala tree, emitted a cool light of nectar. That cool nectar eliminated his fatigue from the journey. The Tathagata, knowing that his body was no longer tired, rose into the sky to the height of a single palm tree and began to walk. The householder who desired solitude, like a great sala tree, saw the Bhagavan, the Tathagata Amitabha, who was adorned and beautiful, with peaceful senses and a peaceful mind, walking and abiding in the sky. Having seen this, he spoke in verses: 'I have seen you as I have heard, Even more excellent and beautiful than what was heard, '

Among those, you and wisdom and qualities are not the same. Then, the Tathagata Amitabha, again in verse, said: Householder, the words you speak, Becoming a solitary place, is very virtuous. How can one here for a long time, Diligently rely on the root of virtue? In the world, there is no one like me, How could there be one who surpasses me? Householder, slightly in your mind, Request whatever you desire. Giver, what is your desire? I will make your mind content. Whatever you ask me slightly, Today, without hesitation, ask. Then, the householder, desiring solitude, like a great Sala tree, requested the Tathagata Amitabha in verse: How does one rise from meditation? Meditation, meditation, the joy of qualities. How does one focus the mind on this? Please tell me those questions. By what root of virtue, Does the one who knows become realized? The one who possesses and the cause of knowing, Please tell me those questions. Then, the Tathagata Amitabha, with a prophecy in one verse, Made him completely happy: The formless meditation, For rising is also very certain. By what knowing, that meditation, Individually obtained, is fully known? After hearing the prophecy of the request, The world's protector, the savior, Placed the householder, the hero, the wise, In the unborn. He, in the Buddha's teachings, Abides without hesitation or doubt. After making that retinue appear, He requested the guide thus: How can the Blessed One's teachings, Be fully understood? Then, the Tathagata Amitabha, in verse, spoke to the householder, the one desiring solitude, like a great Sala tree: Countless sentient beings like the sands of the Ganges, After hearing my good teachings, Truly know the truth as it is, And are established in the unborn. What do you think, son of Maudgalyayana? If you think that the householder, the one desiring solitude, like a great Sala tree, is someone else, you should not view it that way. At that time, at that moment, I was the one called the householder, the one desiring solitude, like a great Sala tree. For the benefit of all beings, I have fully requested what was sought. Son of Maudgalyayana, therefore, Bodhisattva Great
