At that time, from the one named Tathagata Amrita King, up to the Buddha Bhagavan, appeared in the world. The lifespan of that Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha Amrita King was seven thousand years. There were five assemblies of Shravakas. The first assembly of Shravakas consisted of Arhats who had exhausted their defilements, and so on in sequence, those liberated through the knowledge of equality, numbering nine hundred million. The second assembly numbered one trillion. The third assembly consisted of one trillion Arhats. In the fourth and fifth assemblies, there were countless immeasurable Shravaka Arhats. There were three assemblies of Bodhisattvas, twice the number of the Shravakas. In that Buddha-field, a Bodhisattva named 'Possessing a Good Mind' arose, having generated roots of virtue in the presence of countless thousands of Buddhas. He thought to himself: 'Alas! This world-dwelling has become dark, for the cessation of things that arise is not seen, nor is it understood that things that have ceased do not arise again. When things arise, their cessation is not seen, nor is it understood that they do not arise. Who is the Shramana or Brahmin in the world to whom I should go and inquire about this matter?' As he was thinking this, a voice came from the sky: 'The one named Tathagata Amrita Drop King, the all-knowing, all-seeing one, who knows all, understands all, and sees all, and who perfectly knows that the things that have ceased do not arise again, has appeared in the world.' Having heard this, he thought to himself: 'I, Possessing a Good Mind, shall go to the Tathagata Amrita Drop King and ask about this matter. The Tathagata will reveal it as it is, and I shall grasp the meaning accordingly.' Then, that Bodhisattva, Possessing a Good Mind, together with a large assembly of beings, six hundred thousand Brahmins, and eighty-four thousand Kshatriyas like great Sala trees, and countless other immeasurable Brahmins, went together to the Tathagata Amrita

The King of Ambrosia Drops descended right there. The Tathagata, the King of Ambrosia Drops, saw that Bodhisattva of Unwavering Mind, together with a great multitude of people, coming from afar. Having seen them, he manifested such miraculous displays, having manifested such miraculous displays, he filled the Buddha-field, complete in every way, with the radiance of golden light. Having manifested such miraculous displays, having manifested such miraculous displays, there was no distinction or differentiation between gods and humans, saying, "These are gods, these are humans." That great multitude of people, even the sound of any being's spittle was absent, and that assembly became utterly peaceful. Then, the Bodhisattva of Unwavering Mind, knowing that those assemblies were utterly peaceful and not hearing any sound arising, thought to himself, "If sounds do not arise, then they have no cessation, and if dharmas cease, then nothing arises." He thought to himself, "Thus, if sounds do not arise, there is no cessation, and because there is no cessation, there is certainly no dharma of cessation, and because it is not truly existent, there is no arising." He also thought to himself, "What is the nature of these dharmas that have arisen?" And thus wisdom arose: "These conditioned dharmas that have arisen have no nature whatsoever; they have neither arisen nor ceased." At that time, when he did not perceive the nature of those dharmas, he obtained forbearance in relation to the dharma of non-arising. Then, the Tathagata, the King of Ambrosia Drops, knowing that the Bodhisattva of Unwavering Mind had obtained forbearance in relation to the dharma of non-arising, gave his approval, saying, "Well done, son of noble family! You have thus understood the meaning of this dharma as it is. Well done, son of noble family, well done! Son of Maudgalyayana, what do you think? At that time, at that moment, if you think that the one called Bodhisattva of Unwavering Mind is someone else, do not view it that way, for I, at that time, at that moment...

He became known as the Bodhisattva 'Of Unfailing Mind.' By that root of virtue, I have never fallen into wrong paths in seventy-six countless eons. I have never been deluded about the Dharma. I have never had an unwholesome thought born of attachment, hatred, or delusion. Always and constantly entering into the mind of omniscience itself, with that joyful mind, I have abandoned my habitual tendencies. Maudgalyayana's son, therefore, a Bodhisattva should examine the cessation of all things individually, and thus habitual tendencies will be utterly destroyed. Maudgalyayana's son, in order to know the path that will prevent the knowledge of purification, when I was practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva in the past, after I had manifestly awakened to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, thinking, 'How should I truly and thoroughly teach sentient beings?' I manifestly accumulated vast, various, and immeasurable roots of virtue. Maudgalyayana's son, in the past, from immeasurable cycles of time, and even far beyond that, there was a king named Immaculate Empowerment, a king of Dharma who possessed Dharma, endowed with the seven precious things, extensively bestowing, even to the point of being extremely settled. In whatever world he was, he lived in the solitary places of renunciates and Brahmins, and he discerned and inquired with the two ministers and all the other wise men. At that time, near King Immaculate Empowerment, there was a Tathagata named Immaculate Eye, endowed with knowledge and conduct, residing as a Buddha, a Bhagavan. He taught the Dharma, good in the beginning, good in the middle, and good in the end, with good meaning, good words, unmixed, complete, thoroughly teaching pure conduct. King Immaculate Empowerment heard that near him, a Tathagata named Immaculate Eye was teaching the Dharma. He also heard that the retinue of the Tathagata was an immeasurable community of monks. Having heard this, he thought to himself, 'That Tathagata is certainly wise because he possesses uncommon wisdom. What
