There was once a king named Pure Wisdom. His minister, named Peaceful Thought, had the power to meet and consult. He could foresee the decline of all affairs. He could ruin the affairs of others simply by speaking. Whatever he thought in his heart, he would express in words, and his words would surely come to pass, just as people speak what they think. Wise men would cite and explain this. Similarly, the king's minister, Peaceful Thought, could foresee the obstruction of all words. Thereafter, whatever happened to King Pure Wisdom, he entrusted it all to Minister Peaceful Thought. He handled these matters, and nothing changed. Therefore, that king's minister, because of King Pure Wisdom's great trust, became harmless. Son of Maudgalyayana, what do you think? Do you think that the minister Peaceful Thought at that time was someone else? Do not look at it that way. Why? Because I was the king's minister Peaceful Thought at that time. By thoroughly examining the causes of the country's decline, I made the country extremely prosperous and protected it. Son of Maudgalyayana, therefore, a Bodhisattva should thoroughly examine that all dharmas that arise from the world of decline are of the nature of obstruction. Son of Maudgalyayana, in order to know the path that will cut off all defilements, when I was practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva in the past, I thought, after I attain the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, how should I correctly reveal to sentient beings the path that will cut off all defilements? Then, I accumulated various kinds of virtuous roots. Son of Maudgalyayana, in the immeasurable past eons, far beyond that, from the Tathagata White Wisdom to the Buddha Bhagavan, they all appeared in the world. The lifespan of the Tathagata White Wisdom was ninety billion years.

It became ten million. The first assembly of listeners of the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened Buddha White Wisdom was eighty thousand. The second assembly of listeners was one hundred thousand Arhats. The third assembly of listeners was six hundred and eighty thousand listeners. At that time, there was a king's wise son, a young bodhisattva named Rabbit Words, who was beautiful to behold and had accumulated roots of virtue for seventy-seven countless eons. When the Tathagata White Wisdom placed his feet on the ground, this great earth emitted various sounds, and a thousand-petaled golden lotus appeared under his feet, and as soon as it appeared, it disappeared. At that time, this entire great thousand world realm was filled with the light of the Buddha. In that Buddha field, a rain of fragrant water manifestly fell three times a day. All the winds that arose also arose with divine fragrance. In that Buddha field, all the sounds that arose made one understand the sound of impermanence, the sound of suffering, the sound of selflessness, the sound of peace, and the sound of nectar. All those sentient beings heard such sounds. When all those sentient beings were asleep, the Buddha showed his face near to them, and in the dream of the Bodhisattva Rabbit Words, he saw the Tathagata White Wisdom appearing in the world. As soon as he saw him, immeasurable joy arose in that Tathagata. After that joy arose, he gathered the villagers. After gathering them, he said, "Friends, know this! The Tathagata, endowed with knowledge and conduct, named White Wisdom, and so on, has appeared in the world, up to the Buddha, the Blessed One. He extensively and thoroughly taught all the afflictions, teaching the affliction of desire, the affliction of hatred, the affliction of ignorance, the affliction of misconduct, and the causes of those afflictions. He also thoroughly taught the destruction of those afflictions.
