Certainly, the determination of a lifespan of a thousand years is not fixed, but the lifespan becomes immeasurable. Before that lifespan is reached, the time of dying in between does not occur. That King Light-Maker, together with about seven thousand ministers, and together with about five thousand petty kings, went to where the Blessed One, the Thus-Gone-One, the practice of peace was. Having gone, they bowed their heads at the feet of the Blessed One and sat in one place. Those seven thousand ministers also bowed their heads at the feet of the Blessed One, the Thus-Gone-One, the practice of peace, and having sat in one place, they requested the Blessed One, the Thus-Gone-One, the practice of peace, with verses: How does one contemplate form, without desire? How does one arise from form, free from aggregates, without sorrow? How does one arise from form, how does one separately perceive the aggregates? How does one seek peace apart from form, how does one seek? How does one, like a bird king, like a bird in an egg? Having subdued the realm, how does the hero proceed? When the impure world is burned by the three fires, having destroyed all darkness, how does one enter into Nirvana? How does one completely abandon the aggregates, realms, and sources? Like a fire extinguished, how does one abandon the senses? How does the world with gods become the supreme place of merit? How does the hero practice merit, how does one liberate beings well? Like a fire extinguished, how does one proceed without fear? How do all actions and afflictions become completely pacified? How does one attain the birth of going to Nirvana? May one be offered with umbrellas, banners, and supreme flags? The Thus-Gone-One, the practice of peace, the Well-Gone One, taught, the best of two-legged beings, having seen all dharmas with wisdom, prophesied. Having dispelled desire, hatred, and delusion with wisdom, having abandoned them, with wisdom, one knows the aggregates, knows the knowable, with wisdom, one knows there are no sentient beings. Like a lamp extinguished, without attachment, one is near to peace. Gods, humans, গন্ধর্বs, those beings do not know, knowing actions and afflictions, knowing existence and knowing no sorrow. Like a fire with exhausted fuel, without attachment, one enters Nirvana. When one is free from craving, burning the stream of consciousness, not creating the sprout of suffering, burning with the fire of wisdom. There is no going for that one, like a burning flame of fire. All Buddhas have shown that there is no going for the one who acts. Then, King Light.

Having thus (offered), he scattered and utterly scattered all the precious flowers upon the Tathagata Peaceful Conduct. Beneath that, he also scattered incense and flowers. With that root of virtue, for seventy-six countless eons, he was not born into evil destinies or impoverished families, nor was he born into lowly families. Maudgalyayana's son, what do you think? If you think that the king named Light-Maker who existed at that time was someone else, you should not view it that way. I was the king named Light-Maker at that time. Having scattered seven kinds of precious flowers, incense, and flowers upon the Tathagata Peaceful Conduct, I made immeasurable reverence. Maudgalyayana's son, therefore, when a Bodhisattva practices the conduct of a Bodhisattva, he should generate immeasurable reverence for the Buddhas, the Bhagavat. He should also not completely abandon the mind of omniscience. A Bodhisattva who has not abandoned the mind of omniscience will quickly become irreversible from unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Maudgalyayana's son, in order to understand the meaning of meditation, when practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva, after I have manifestly and completely awakened to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, how shall I definitely arise through the power of peaceful abiding? Thus, I manifestly accumulated various kinds of vast roots of virtue in many ways. Maudgalyayana's son, in the past, beyond the immeasurable eons of the past, there appeared a king named Protector of All Kings. That Protector of All Kings had sixty-eight thousand female consorts, who resembled the form of goddesses, were loving like mothers, pleasing like sisters, respectful like servants, and virtuous like goddesses. Among them, the Protector of All Kings dwelt apart from sensual pleasures, apart from sinful and unwholesome dharmas, possessing investigation and analysis, having fully accomplished and abiding in the first dhyana of joy and bliss born of seclusion. Likewise, he fully accomplished and abided up to the fourth dhyana. That dhyana
