said, those prostitutes poured wine until he was drunk and unconscious, wrapped him in a straw mat, and threw him at the crossroads of the road. Because it was not the same, that student became distressed from that untimely speech and that unreasonable speech. Son of Maudgalyayana, what do you think? At that time, at that time, do you think that the one called Steng Groglama was someone else? You should not look at it that way, I at that time, at that time, became the one called Steng Groglama. Son of Maudgalyayana, what do you think? At that time, at that time, the one who became the one called Steng Grosangga, who spoke untimely words and unreasonable words, do you think he was someone else? You should not look at it that way, Devadatta at that time, at that time, became the one called Steng Grosangga. He became distressed from speaking untimely words and speaking unreasonable words. The happiness that I experience is like this: I spoke of all arising at the right time and reasonably. The cause of the ripening of the karma of the suffering experienced by Devadatta is like this: he spoke untimely words and unreasonable words. Son of Maudgalyayana, therefore, a Bodhisattva should practice understanding time and understanding all arising. Son of Maudgalyayana, for a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who dwells near speaking at the right time, mindfulness should be practiced. Son of Maudgalyayana, a Bodhisattva who dwells near the senses is called diligent. He will not completely fall away from the Dharmas of a Bodhisattva. Son of Maudgalyayana, what are those Dharmas of a Bodhisattva? What Bodhisattvas should not completely fall away from is, for example, the six perfections, namely, the perfection of generosity, the perfection of ethics, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, and the perfection of wisdom. Son of Maudgalyayana, these are the Dharmas of a Bodhisattva, which Bodhisattvas should not completely fall away from. A Bodhisattva is close to mindfulness

Dwelling in and cultivating the recollection of giving, one perfects the meritorious activity arising from generosity. When the meritorious activity arising from generosity is perfected, it prevents miserliness; by preventing miserliness, one upholds giving. Having upheld all of that, there is no manifest attachment; without manifest attachment to all that is upheld, one cuts the bonds. Cutting the bonds is liberation. Liberation is freedom. Freedom is without manifest attachment, and one passes into nirvana in the realm without remainder of aggregates. Maudgalyayana's son, these are the dharmas of a Bodhisattva; those Bodhisattvas are not bound and cause no degeneration. Maudgalyayana's son, when a Bodhisattva does not degenerate, the world with the gods, with Mara, with Brahma, and the assemblies of beings with ascetics and Brahmins will know that he teaches, knows that he leads, knows that he completely leads, knows that he holds a lamp, knows that he makes light. Likewise, it is known that he clarifies, teaches, guides, pacifies, and thoroughly pacifies. It is known that he gladdens, increases, goes before, goes in front, and makes an end. It is known that he liberates, goes to the other shore, makes light, and makes happiness. It is known that he is a place, a protector, a refuge, a goer to the other shore, and makes fearlessness. Maudgalyayana's son, why is that? Because Bodhisattvas obtain great compassion from those beings, alas, these beings have no protector, some beings want to be liberated from suffering and desire sensual pleasure, some beings want to be liberated from suffering and desire the bliss of equanimity, they have completely lost the way, entered a wrong path, and follow an evil path! Maudgalyayana's son, in the past, it happened that in immeasurable past eons, even beyond that, there appeared a teacher named the Solitary Practitioner, who will surely liberate beings from the great harm of desire.

Liberation and, placing in definite departure, thereby also holding it as pure. Thereby also truly placing many beings, when sentient beings obtain separation from desires and for a while desire to completely pass away from sorrow with this, thereby placing many assemblies of beings in separation from desires. Those also transform into the thought that separation from desires has reached the ultimate. When sentient beings arise with separation from desires, then it is said to be extinguished, and no longer generates a body. Thereby placing eighty billion beings in that patience, those, with the thought that it is liberation, at the time of death, see birth in the world of Brahma. Those arise with this thought, that is to say, what is called extinction is a false dharma. That is to say, what is called the path of extinction is a false path. Those ascetics and Brahmins who declare that they have attained nirvana are speaking falsely, for as soon as they are born, the immeasurable palace of Brahma that they see becomes invisible, and a great hell for sentient beings arises. Therefore, apart from liberation by another path, definite departure from desire is not liberation. Some ascetics and Brahmins also believe that liberation is through the bliss of meditation. Maudgalyayana's son, who appeared in the past, in countless cycles of time, beyond the far shore, there appeared a sage named 'Not a Noble Sage', who perceived desires as bonds, and thus renounced desires and arose. Having manifested, he attained the first dhyana with investigation and analysis, and he thought to himself, 'This place where investigation and analysis occur is not completely peaceful. Above this, there is peace and excellence.' Having thought this, he attained meditation without investigation, and he thought to himself, 'This place where investigation and analysis do not arise is nirvana. This is peace. This is excellence. Where there is no investigation and analysis, one does not fall into rebirth again and again, and there is no clinging whatsoever. This is the aggregate.'
