The Blessed One then requested with a verse-like melody: O King, your mind is pure and adorned with virtue, I beseech the self-born guide. O Protector, how should one practice to be a son of the guide? I seek the cause of actions that lead to virtuous conduct. How does one transform into pure actions free from attachment? How does one cultivate virtue through pure actions? How does one attain pure actions through practice? O Guide, please speak of the cause of pure actions. How does one fully attain the purity of actions? How do beings manifest from pure actions? How does one remember the cause of pure actions? O Guide, helmsman, master, please speak. The mind that delights in supremely virtuous conduct, Actions that are collaborative, peaceful, and pure. Having heard your pure words, O King, The Guide, your son, abides perfectly in enlightenment. Then, the son of Maudgalyayana, the Thus-Gone One who utterly vanquished the power of Mara, spoke thus to the Bodhisattva Apasokashoka (Sorrowless): Apasokashoka, you have entered for the benefit of many beings, for the happiness of many beings, and out of compassion for the world, thinking to fully inquire about this matter from the Thus-Gone One. Apasokashoka, well done, well done! Son of good family, therefore, listen well and keep it in mind, and I will tell you. The Bodhisattva Apasokashoka, having said "Well done" to the Blessed One, listened as the Blessed One spoke, and the Blessed One said this to him: Son of good family, here, a Bodhisattva, a great being, who desires to awaken to the unexcelled, perfectly complete enlightenment, should train in abandoning pride. One should closely establish the mind as a source of benefit for all sentient beings. One should also individually recognize the joy of the Dharma. One should also not abandon the mind of enlightenment. One should also make the virtuous friend rejoice. One should also not be content in seeking the Dharma. One should also diligently strive in listening to much. One should also seek out treatises that have been thoroughly examined. One should also train in individual understanding. One should also train in individually understanding philosophical tenets. One should also be skilled in rituals. One should also respect the Lama. One should not associate with the Lama without contentment. The Lama's words

One should not transgress. One should seek treatises that are meaningful and abandon others that are meaningless. Such as treatises on worldly archery, treatises on punitive laws, treatises on astrology, treatises on the science of speech, treatises on the science of origins, treatises on bewilderment, treatises on youthful games, treatises on food, treatises on gambling, treatises on jumping, treatises on illusion, treatises on trade, treatises on butchery, treatises on selling alcohol, treatises on sexual intercourse, treatises on travel, treatises on being ignorant of all livelihoods, treatises on sleep, treatises on stiffness, treatises on various forms of bewilderment, treatises on catching snakes, and any other treatises that are incompatible with liberation, and any that lead to complete bewilderment, all of these should be completely abandoned by those who are firmly established in the Bodhisattva Vehicle. Why is that? Because these are obstacles to liberation. Furthermore, a Bodhisattva who desires to attain unsurpassable, perfect, and complete enlightenment should diligently engage in generosity, discipline, and correct precepts. To gather sentient beings, one should make oneself a vessel. How should these words be understood? Son of good family, no matter how small, speaking out of time will not be accepted. Therefore, one should speak words at the appropriate time and with reason. Maudgalyayana's son, in a past time, there were two friends, one named Utpala-priya (Blue Lotus Joy) and the other named Guru (Teacher), and in another place, they lived near the royal palace. One served the king, and the other served a prostitute. Among them, the one who served the prostitute was named Utpala-priya (Blue Lotus Joy), and the one who served the king was named Guru (Teacher). Among them, the attendant friend Guru (Teacher) who served the king spoke with reason and at the right time. While the attendant friend Utpala-priya (Blue Lotus Joy) who served the prostitute spoke out of time and without reason.
