Furthermore, a Bodhisattva who practices transcendent wisdom is not burned by all the kalpas of the burning of afflictions. Manjushri, for example, the sky does not dwell together with dust, mist, and all clouds. Manjushri, similarly, a Bodhisattva who practices transcendent wisdom does not dwell together with all afflictions. Manjushri, for example, the sky does not dwell together with the earth. Manjushri, similarly, a Bodhisattva who practices transcendent wisdom does not dwell together with all afflictions. Manjushri, for example, a lodestone does not dwell together with iron. Manjushri, similarly, a Bodhisattva who practices transcendent wisdom does not dwell together with all afflictions. Manjushri, for example, Mount Chakravada cannot be moved by all winds. Manjushri, similarly, a Bodhisattva who practices transcendent wisdom cannot be moved by all afflictions. Manjushri, for example, when one goes to the place of birth of animals, what is called a goose, from the mixture of milk and water, only takes the milk and not the water. Manjushri, similarly, a Bodhisattva who practices transcendent wisdom, from the mixture of transcendent wisdom and afflictions, only takes the wisdom and not the afflictions. Manjushri, for example, in Uttarakuru, one does not bend the branches of trees to women who are near cemeteries. Manjushri, similarly, one does not bend the conduct of Bodhisattvas, transcendent wisdom, and wisdom to sentient beings whose faculties are not fully matured. Manjushri, now I have no fear or dread of afflictions. Why is that? Manjushri, it is because I have realized the emptiness of the nature of all phenomena. Manjushri, Bodhisattvas are those who have donned the armor of fearlessness. Manjushri, for example, one who is afraid of an enemy is not called a hero. Manjushri, similarly, one who is afraid of afflictions is not called a Bodhisattva.

Also. Manjushri, for example, one who is defeated by an enemy is not called a hero. Manjushri, similarly, one who is defeated by afflictions is not called a Bodhisattva. Manjushri, for example, if a precious jewel called a water-clearing gem is placed in water, it will not become wet, nor will it be stained by the impurities of the water, and it will make all the turbidity of the water completely clear. Manjushri, similarly, a Bodhisattva who practices noble wisdom, even if he dwells in the midst of afflictions, will not be moistened by afflictions, nor will he be stained by the impurities of afflictions, and he will completely pacify all the turbidity of afflictions. Then, the daughter of a prostitute, Golden Top Light, having spoken this teaching, again said to the youthful Manjushri: Manjushri, how can a Bodhisattva be without afflictions? Manjushri said: Sister, if a Bodhisattva sees the arising or ceasing of afflictions, it should not be said that this Bodhisattva is without all afflictions. Sister, for example, if darkness appears in the presence of a butter lamp, it should not be called a butter lamp. Sister, similarly, if a Bodhisattva sees the arising or ceasing of afflictions, it should not be said that this Bodhisattva is without afflictions. Sister, what is called without afflictions is that nowhere is there seen all-pervading affliction, nor is there seen complete purification; being separate from seeing and not seeing, mind and intellect, and consciousness, that is without afflictions. Sister, wherever mind and intellect, and consciousness enter, even thinking of attaining Nirvana, all of that is affliction. Why is that? Because in the absence of affliction, there is no mind or entry into the mind. Whatever the mind enters into with the aim of virtue or non-virtue, all of those are formations. Whatever is formed is samsara. Whatever is samsara is formation. All formations are samsara. Sister, those are afflictions. Sister, what is called affliction is connection, the eye.

The combination of eye and form is affliction. Similarly, the combination of ear and sound, nose and smell, tongue and taste, body and touch, mind and dharma is affliction. Association with morality is affliction. Association with samadhi is affliction. Association with wisdom, liberation, and the vision of the wisdom of liberation is affliction. Thinking of associating with profound solitude is affliction. Sister, that which is called 'without affliction' is another name for 'without going.' That is another name for 'without elaboration.' That is another name for 'without effort.' That is another name for 'without arising.' Sister, being separated from number and the innumerable is truly without affliction. Sister, furthermore, whatever Bodhisattva is without affliction in himself, and is also exceedingly diligent in liberating others from affliction, that is without affliction, thus has the Tathagata spoken. Causing others to be liberated from affliction is the Bodhisattva's supreme diligence. The girl said: Manjushri, what is the Bodhisattva's supreme diligence? Manjushri said: To have compassion for sentient beings who follow after the individual discernment of emptiness and engage in views; to have compassion for sentient beings who follow after the individual discernment of the signless and engage in signs; to have compassion for sentient beings who follow after the individual discernment of the wishless and engage in wishes; to have compassion for sentient beings who follow after the individual discernment of the unconditioned and engage in conditioning; to have compassion for sentient beings who follow after the individual discernment of the unborn and unceasing and conceive of aging and death; to have compassion for sentient beings who follow after the individual discernment of the unborn and conceive of birth and destruction; to follow after the individual discernment of those who are determined to be Shravakas and turn away from obtaining the fruit of the Shravakas; to follow after the individual discernment of those who are determined to be Pratyekabuddhas
