La! The eightfold path is the essence of the supreme path, and soon you will become a teacher. You who destroy old age, death, and afflictions, completely liberate from darkness and dimness. Your fame resounds throughout the earth and the heavenly realms, you are the self-arisen victor. Possessing the excellent marks of a great man, I praise you with immeasurable praise. By the merit of praising you, may I become a speaker like a lion. Monks, when the Bodhisattva appeared in this way, he went beyond the land of the Shakyas, the land of Koti, and the land of Gyad. From the city of Meni called Remembrance, the Bodhisattva traveled six yojanas, and dawn broke. Then, the Bodhisattva dismounted from the horse Kanthaka and sat on the ground. A great crowd of gods, nagas, yakshas, gandharvas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, and mahoragas gathered again. After gathering again, he thought: I will give these ornaments and the horse Kanthaka to Gundun and have him take them back. Then, the Bodhisattva called Gundun and said: Gundun, take these ornaments and the horse Kanthaka and return. Build a stupa where Gundun returns. Today, that stupa is also known as the Stupa of Gundun's Return. The Bodhisattva also thought: How can I have a topknot and also become a renunciant? So he cut off his topknot with a sword and threw it into the sky. The gods of the Thirty-Three Heavens caught it to make offerings, and today the gods of the Thirty-Three Heavens still hold the festival of the topknot. A stupa was also built there, and today that stupa is named the Stupa of Taking the Topknot. The Bodhisattva also thought: Even if I renounce, how can I wear a Kashaya cloth? It would be good if I could find a suitable cloth from the forest. Then, the gods of the Pure Abode thought: The Bodhisattva needs a kasaya. At that time, a son of the gods hid his divine form and transformed into the form of a hunter.

Then he put on the saffron robes and went before the Bodhisattva. Then the Bodhisattva said to him, "Friend, if you give me these saffron robes, I will also give you these Kashika robes of mine." He said, "These robes also suit you, and those also suit me." The Bodhisattva said, "I beg you for them." Then that son of the gods, who looked like a hunter, gave the saffron robes to the Bodhisattva and also took the Kashika robes. Then that son of the gods generated faith, took those robes with both hands, placed them on his head, and in order to make offerings and show respect to them, he went from there to the world of the gods. He was also seen by the Desire Realm gods, and he built a stupa. Even today, that stupa is named 'Taking the Saffron Robes.' When the Bodhisattva cut off his topknot and distributed the saffron robes, hundreds of thousands of sons of the gods were joyful, content, delighted, exceedingly joyful, and generated joy and happiness, saying, 'Friends, the youth Siddhartha has renounced! Friends, the youth Siddhartha has renounced!' He will awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, turn the wheel of Dharma, and countless sentient beings will be completely liberated from birth, from aging, death, sickness, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, discomfort, and turmoil, and will liberate sentient beings from the ocean of samsara, placing them in the realm of Dharma, which is fearless, without sorrow, without harm, peaceful, free from dust, and without death. Then the sounds of 'Alala,' and clamor and gaza were uttered. That sound also passed from one to another and resounded as far as the Akanistha heaven. Then the retinue of consorts, not seeing the youth, searched in the palaces where they resided in spring, winter, and summer, and in the beds and rooms, when
