They were also freed from prison. At that time, all the diseases and sufferings of all sentient beings in hell, such as Avici, ceased. Sufferings such as eating each other also subsided for those born as animals. Sufferings such as hunger and thirst also subsided for the beings of the world of Yama. When the Bodhisattva practiced for countless kalpas, hundreds of thousands of kotis, practiced very diligently, possessed great diligence, possessed great power, when he took seven steps immediately after birth, he obtained the nature of Dharma, and at that time, the Buddhas and Bhagavans dwelling in the ten directions of the world blessed that side of the earth with the nature of vajra so that it would not be destroyed at that time. Monks, the Bodhisattva, born immediately after that, took seven steps, possessing such great strength. At that time, all the spaces of the world were filled with great light. At that time, a great sound of song also arose. A great sound of dance also arose. At that time, countless clouds of flowers, flour, incense, garlands, jewels, ornaments and clothes also visibly rained down. All sentient beings were also filled with supreme happiness. In short, when the Bodhisattva, who is superior to all the worlds, appeared in the world, inconceivable things happened. Then the venerable Ananda rose from his seat, bared one shoulder from his upper garment, thrust his right knee into the ground, and, folding his palms, bowed to the Bhagavan and said to the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, the Tathagata is more wonderful than all sentient beings. If even the Bodhisattva possesses wonderful qualities, what need is there to speak of attaining unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment? Bhagavan, I have seen this four or five times, ten times, or even fifty times.

Likewise. Even a hundred times. Even a hundred thousand times, I take refuge in the Buddha, the Bhagavan. Having thus requested, the Bhagavan spoke thus to the venerable Ānanda: "Ānanda, in the future, there will be some monks who do not cultivate their bodies, do not cultivate their minds, do not cultivate morality, do not cultivate wisdom, who are childish, unskilled, full of arrogance, agitated, conceited, untamed, with scattered minds, deceitful, full of doubt, without faith, who have become the defilement of mendicants, unlike the nature of mendicants. When they hear that Bodhisattvas enter the womb of their mothers completely pure, they will not believe it, and they will gather together in one place and say to each other, 'Hey, look at this unreasonable thing! The Bodhisattva is in the womb of his mother, mixed with impure semen and blood, yet he has such enjoyment!' And they will say, 'When he is born, he comes out of his mother's right side, unpolluted by the filth of the womb. How can this be reasonable?' Those foolish people do not know that the bodies of beings who have performed good deeds do not arise in impure semen and blood. Monks, it is very good indeed that such noble beings enter and dwell in the womb. Bodhisattvas, out of compassion for beings, are born in the human world and do not turn the wheel of Dharma as gods. Why is that? Ānanda, beings become discouraged, thinking, 'The Bhagavan, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, is a transformation of the gods, but we are only human. We cannot perfect such a place.' For this reason, they cause beings to become discouraged. Those foolish people, who have become thieves of the Dharma, do not think, 'Beings are inconceivable, and they are not to be measured by us.' Ānanda, at that time, they will not even believe in the miracles of the Buddha. The Tathagata, the Bo-
