Whatever is manifested in all ways as it is thought, that is generosity. Whatever is manifested as desired, that is discipline. Whatever is spoken as it is thought, that is patience. Whatever is spoken especially, that is diligence. Whatever is spoken without grasping in the mind, that is meditation. Whatever definitely liberates from that, that is wisdom. These are the six perfections for accomplishing the close approach of the Sangha of monks. Similarly, it should be understood that this explanation also applies to all eight retinues. So, what are the six perfections for accomplishing the correct understanding of individual meanings? Whatever speaks of meaning and speaks of non-meaning, that is generosity. Whatever satisfies many people, that is discipline. Whatever is without fault in meaning, that is patience. Starting from the Akanistha realm, whatever extensively speaks the truth to each other, that is diligence. Whatever is content with meaning among equals, that is meditation.
