Why is that? World-Honored One, the Dharmakaya of the Tathagata has existed since beginningless time, unmade, unborn, invisible, without birth, is permanent, is stable, is completely pure by nature, is liberated from the womb of all afflictions, is not different from the Buddhadharmas, and possesses inconceivable liberated wisdom, the number of which exceeds the sands of the Ganges River, this is for the purpose of indicating it by the name of 'cessation of suffering.' World-Honored One, therefore, the Tathagatagarbha, the Dharmakaya, is called liberated from the womb of afflictions. World-Honored One, the wisdom of the Tathagatagarbha is the emptiness wisdom of the Tathagatas. The Tathagatagarbha is what the Shravakas and all Pratyekabuddhas have never seen or realized before. The World-Honored One has comprehended and directly realized it. World-Honored One, there are two kinds of wisdom that understand the emptiness of the Tathagatagarbha. What are the two? Namely, World-Honored One, the Tathagatagarbha is different from the womb of all afflictions, and because it remains in an unliberated state, it is considered empty by those who know; and, World-Honored One, the Tathagatagarbha is not different from the Buddhadharmas, and because of liberation, it possesses inconceivable wisdom, the number of which exceeds the sands of the Ganges River, it is not considered non-empty. World-Honored One, even the great Shravakas can only enter into these two kinds of wisdom that understand the emptiness of the Tathagatagarbha through great reverence for the World-Honored One. World-Honored One, the emptiness wisdom of the Shravakas and all Pratyekabuddhas enters into the four inverted views. World-Honored One, that is why the Shravakas and all Pratyekabuddhas have never seen or realized all the cessation of suffering. The World-Honored One has comprehended and directly realized it. He has also cultivated all the paths that destroy the womb of all afflictions and lead to the cessation of suffering. World-Honored One, among these four noble truths, three truths are impermanent, and one truth is permanent. Why is that?

Venerable One, the three truths belong to the nature of conditioned phenomena. Venerable One, whatever belongs to the nature of conditioned phenomena is impermanent. Whatever is impermanent is a false, deceptive dharma. Venerable One, whatever is a false, deceptive dharma is untrue and impermanent, and not a refuge. Venerable One, since this is so, the noble truth of suffering, the noble truth of the origin of suffering, and the noble truth of the path leading to the cessation of suffering are also, in truth, untrue and impermanent, and not a refuge. Venerable One, there is one truth here that transcends the realm of conditioned phenomena. Venerable One, whatever transcends the realm of conditioned phenomena is permanent. Whatever is permanent is a non-deceptive dharma. Venerable One, whatever is a non-deceptive dharma is true, permanent, and a refuge. Venerable One, since this is so, the truth of the cessation of suffering itself is, in truth, true, permanent, and a refuge. Venerable One, the truth of the cessation of suffering, which transcends the realm of consciousness of all sentient beings, is inconceivable and not the domain of knowledge of all Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Venerable One, just as a blind person cannot see form, and a seven-year-old child in a place of childbirth cannot see the orb of the sun, so too, Venerable One, the truth of the cessation of suffering is not the domain of consciousness of all ordinary beings, nor is it the domain of knowledge of all Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Venerable One, what is called the consciousness of all ordinary beings is a conventional term for those who are inverted in viewing the two extremes. Venerable One, what is called the knowledge of all Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas is a conventional term for pure knowledge. Venerable One, what is called clinging to the two extremes is a conventional term for the childish, ordinary, and speculative people who manifestly cling to the aggregates of grasping as self. Venerable One, these two are called extreme views, two
