Endowed with discrimination. Among these, what is it to be endowed with discrimination regarding the aspect of ugliness? For example: Alas, this body is impure, filled with filth, short-lived, and seduces children. This is what it means to be endowed with discrimination regarding the aspect of ugliness. Among these, what is it to be endowed with discrimination regarding the aspect of beauty? For example: With this impure and friendless body, I shall attain the body of the Thus-Gone One, the body of Dharma, the body of merit, the body of wisdom, the body of vajra, the indestructible body, the body without outflows, the body that is particularly superior to the three realms, the body that, when its form is seen, will satisfy all sentient beings. This is called being endowed with discrimination regarding the aspect of beauty. Son of good family, this is the cultivation of the two aspects of mindfulness, endowed with discrimination, of a Bodhisattva. Son of good family, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva cultivates mindfulness, observing the body in the body, he completely purifies two dharmas. What are the two? They are the aspect of impermanence and the aspect of permanence. Among these, what is the aspect of impermanence? Alas, this body is the aspect of impermanence; it does not remain for long; ultimately, it will die. Knowing this, one does not engage in livelihoods that are unsuitable for the sake of the body, and one takes the essence itself. One takes three essences. What are the three? The essence of the body, the essence of resources, and the essence of livelihood. Thinking that the body is impermanent, one vows to be a servant and student of all sentient beings, and one strives to do whatever is necessary. Thinking that the body is impermanent, one does not commit any faults of the body, such as deceit and pretense. Thinking that the body is impermanent, one does not rely on life, and one does not commit sins even for the sake of life. Thinking that the body is impermanent, one does not crave or cling to resources, but completely gives away all possessions. Son of good family, in this way, a Bodhisattva abides, observing the body in the body in the aspect of impermanence, and from that, he thoroughly obtains the benefit of qualities. Among these, what is the aspect of permanence? It is the Bodhi of one who abides, observing the body in the body.

Those Bodhisattvas who have arisen and come into being with the wisdom of discernment of a virtuous mind, dedicate themselves entirely to omniscience in order to never cut off the lineage of the Buddha, never cut off the lineage of the Dharma, never cut off the lineage of the Sangha, and to completely protect all realms of sentient beings. This act of giving to all sentient beings, making it common to all sentient beings, is called the aspect of permanence. That which is inexhaustible is called permanence; the unconditioned is called inexhaustible. The unconditioned is permanent. Son of the lineage, this dedication of all the roots of virtue performed by the Bodhisattva to the unconditioned nature of omniscience is called the aspect of permanence. Emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness are permanent. In this regard, the Bodhisattva, with the sphere of activity of emptiness, and the definite examination of signlessness, and the cause corresponding to wishlessness, initiates diligence, and all that is done is called the aspect of permanence. Space is permanent. In this regard, the Bodhisattva, with a mind equal to space, without discrimination, practices the conduct of a Bodhisattva, and this is called the aspect of permanence. Son of the lineage, furthermore, the Bodhisattva cultivates the mindfulness of observing the body in the body, thinking, 'I will bind the bodies of all sentient beings to this body, and I will establish the bodies of all sentient beings in the state of the Buddha's body.' Just as the body of the Tathagata is without outflows, so too does he understand the nature of his own body's dharma. Being skilled in the dharma without outflows, he also fully knows that the bodies of all sentient beings are of that nature. With a body without outflows, he accumulates roots of virtue of a nature without outflows, and so forth. He also, with a mind without outflows, completely dedicates those roots of virtue to the omniscience without outflows. Because he has attained the dharma without outflows, he does not arise from outflows. What are the outflows? They are, for example, the outflow of desire, the outflow of existence, the outflow of ignorance, and the outflow of views. He possesses the ability to fully understand the outflow of desire, and in order to fully ripen sentient beings, he consciously enters the realm of desire.
