And those departed ordinary beings are also similarly inconceivable. The Blessed One said: Manjushri, that is so. Why is that? Because all thoughts are inconceivable. Manjushri Bodhisattva asked: Blessed One, then, since the Tathagata is inconceivable, and ordinary beings are also inconceivable, why do you say that, Blessed One? Blessed One, isn't the very nature of ordinary beings inconceivable? Why is that? Blessed One, because all dharmas are inconceivable. Blessed One, if some people enter for the sake of nirvana, Blessed One, those people will become weak. Why is that? Because the inconceivable itself is nirvana. Blessed One, therefore, there is no difference in the inconceivable. Blessed One, if someone says: these are the dharmas of ordinary beings, these are the dharmas of the noble ones, to those people, first go and attend to and serve the virtuous friends, and then you will know that these are the dharmas of ordinary beings, these are the dharmas of the noble ones. You should say this to them. After praying like this, the Blessed One said to Manjushri, the youth: Manjushri, do you think that the Tathagata is the most supreme of all sentient beings? Manjushri Bodhisattva asked: Blessed One, if there are some sentient beings who are completely accomplished here, then I think that the Tathagata is the most supreme of all sentient beings. The Blessed One said: Manjushri, do you think that the Tathagata possesses inconceivable dharmas? Manjushri Bodhisattva asked: Blessed One, if there is anything associated with the dharma of thought, then I think that the Tathagata possesses inconceivable dharmas. The Blessed One said: Manjushri, do you think that these Shravakas are tamed by the Tathagata? Manjushri Bodhisattva asked: Blessed One, if someone enters the inconceivable realm

If they are tamed, then we, the disciples of the Shravakas, should recognize that 'they have been tamed by the Tathagata.' O Blessed One, the arising of the Buddha is neither beneficial nor harmful to anyone. Why is that? Because this realm is the nature of abiding, and this realm is the nature of being unmixed. For example, it is because this is the realm of pervasive thought. In that realm, from the various Shravakas to the various ordinary beings, nothing is perceived. The Blessed One said: Manjushri, do you think that the Tathagata is the supreme field of merit? Manjushri said: Blessed One, because there is no entity, the Tathagata is a field of merit. Therefore, he is not the supreme field of merit. He is not a full field, nor is he an unfilled field, nor is he a field. Therefore, he is not the supreme field of merit. Blessed One, also because no Dharma can be truly accomplished in him, he is not a field of merit. Planting seeds in him neither increases nor decreases. The Blessed One said: Manjushri, what do you think is the reason for saying that planting seeds in that field neither increases nor decreases? Manjushri said: Blessed One, because that field is inconceivable. Therefore, he is a field of merit. Then, at that time, by the power of the Buddha, the great earth shook in six ways. Sixty thousand monks, without attachment, had their minds completely liberated from the outflows. Seven hundred and eighty nuns, three hundred laymen, forty thousand laywomen, and sixty kotis nayutas of hundreds of thousands of gods who dwell in desire, all generated the Dharma eye, free from dust and stainless, in the Dharma. Then, the venerable Ananda rose from his seat, arranged his robe over one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and, with his palms joined, bowed towards the Blessed One and said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, what is the cause of this great earthquake that has occurred in the world?

Me. What is the reason? After asking thus, the Blessed One spoke thus to the venerable Ananda: Ananda, this Dharma category called "Teaching of the Field of Merit" has also been spoken in this very place by the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, of the past. Ananda, the cause of this earthquake in the world is that, and the condition is that. Then, the son of Sharadvati, the venerable one, asked the Blessed One thus: Blessed One, Manjushri is an inconceivable glory! What is the reason for that? Like this, whatever his prowess is, and that very prowess itself, is indeed inconceivable. Then, the Blessed One spoke to Manjushri, who had become a youth: Manjushri, the words spoken by the monk Sharadvati's son are true, all those powers of Manjushri, who has become a youth, are indeed inconceivable. Having spoken thus, Manjushri, who had become a youth, asked the Blessed One thus: Blessed One, the inconceivable is not a prowess. If the inconceivable were to become a prowess, then it would become conceivable. Whatever is the inconceivable that is not inconceivable, there is nothing. Blessed One, all sounds are within the scope of the conceivable, the inconceivable itself is not a sound. That which is not a sound, and that which is also not a non-sound, cannot be shown. The Blessed One said: Manjushri, do you enter into the samadhi of the inconceivable? Manjushri replied: Blessed One, that is not so, I do not enter into the samadhi of the inconceivable. What is the reason for that? Blessed One, it is because I myself am the inconceivable samadhi. Blessed One, if I were conceivable, then I would enter into the inconceivable samadhi. Blessed One, if what is called samadhi is inconceivable, immeasurable, then how can I enter into the inconceivable samadhi? That is how it is.
