The boy then asked: "Lord, this Manjushri Kumara, his actions should not be shown as those of a beginner." After he had asked this, Manjushri Kumara said to the venerable son of Sharadvati: "Venerable son of Sharadvati, I do not teach the Dharma in such a way that it can be understood even by a wise person who has become an Arhat. Nor do I teach in such a way that anyone can understand it. Why is that? Because enlightenment is not known by anyone, not fully known by anyone, not manifestly and perfectly awakened to, not realized, not seen, not heard, not remembered or generated, not prevented, not spoken or shown by anyone. Venerable son of Sharadvati, enlightenment is like that. But enlightenment is not a thing either. Why is that? Because there is nothing to be manifestly and perfectly awakened to by enlightenment, and enlightenment is not manifestly and perfectly awakened to by enlightenment. The son of Sharadvati said: "Manjushri, has the Lord not manifestly and perfectly awakened to the very essence of the Dharma?" Manjushri said: "Venerable son of Sharadvati, that is not so. Why is that? Venerable son of Sharadvati, the very essence of the Dharma is the Lord. Venerable son of Sharadvati, if the Lord were to manifestly and perfectly awaken to the essence of the Dharma, then it would contradict that unborn realm. Venerable son of Sharadvati, the very essence of the Dharma is enlightenment. Why is that? Because the essence of the Dharma is without sentient beings. The statement 'all dharmas are without inherent existence' is a synonym for enlightenment, and it belongs to the category of the essence of the Dharma. Why is that? Because all dharmas are without difference in the realm of the Buddhas. Venerable son of Sharadvati, 'without difference' means without discrimination. Venerable son of Sharadvati, 'without discrimination' means that which cannot be known, it cannot be known in conditioned things, and it cannot be known even in unconditioned things. In this

Because there is no discriminating wisdom whatsoever, therefore it is without discriminating wisdom. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, all dharmas are without discriminating wisdom. Why is that? Because all dharmas have no birth in which to abide and become discriminating wisdom. Those who enter the uninterrupted enter the inconceivable. Those who enter the inconceivable enter correctly. Why is that? Venerable Sharadvatiputra, that which is called correct is because there is no basis for differentiation. Those who possess the inconceivable do not go to the heavens, do not go to the lower realms, and do not go to nirvana. Why is that? Because the inconceivable is not closely abiding in going and not going, and from there up to nirvana, it is not closely abiding in going and not going. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, those who abide in the four roots of downfall also abide in the rootless. Why is that? Venerable Sharadvatiputra, because there is no birth, there is no root or summit. The so-called rootless bhikshu is a synonym for the non-abiding bhikshu. The so-called arising of disputes is a synonym for excessive superimposition. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, one who engages in excessive superimposition becomes a field of offerings in the world. Why is that? Because in this way, there is excessive superimposition on equality. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, a bhikshu with faith should not use what is given by faith. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, a bhikshu with faith should use what is given by faith. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, a bhikshu with discipline should not use what is given by faith. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, a bhikshu without discipline should use what is given by faith. A bhikshu who has not correctly subdued is called an Arhat, one whose defilements are exhausted. Sharadvatiputra said: Manjushri, what did you think to say these words? Manjushri said: Wherever there is equality, wherever equality is correctly subdued, that itself is the correct way. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, having thought about that, it is also the correct way.

A monk who is well-tamed is called an Arhat, one who has exhausted the defilements. The venerable Sharadvatiputra, "not having transcended fear," is another name for an Arhat, one who has exhausted the defilements. Sharadvatiputra said: Manjushri, based on what do you say this? Manjushri said: If he has not even a little fear, what will he transcend? Sharadvatiputra said: Manjushri, what is the other name for "one who has the patience of non-arising"? Manjushri said: Venerable Sharadvatiputra, whoever does not generate even a little dharma, that is called "one who has the patience of non-arising." Sharadvatiputra said: Manjushri, what is the other name for "an untamed monk"? Manjushri said: Venerable Sharadvatiputra, "an untamed monk" is another name for an Arhat who has exhausted the defilements. Why is that? The untamed is the tamed, and the tamed is the untamed, therefore, venerable Sharadvatiputra, considering this, "an untamed monk" is another name for an Arhat who has exhausted the defilements. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, "one who engages in higher mind" is another name for an ordinary person. Sharadvatiputra said: Manjushri, based on what do you say this? Manjushri said: Venerable Sharadvatiputra, thus, it is because he makes it higher. Having said this, the venerable Sharadvatiputra said this to Manjushri, who had become a youth: Manjushri, you have spoken well about the Arhat who has exhausted the defilements, just as it is! Manjushri said: Venerable Sharadvatiputra,
