Nowhere to be found, nothing to rely on, no self, nothing to grasp. If one were to discriminate with the discrimination of desire, to discriminate with the discrimination of a harmful mind, to discriminate with the discrimination of harm or other unwholesome thoughts, one would be no different from beings who cling to self and delight in assembly. I would deceive the gods, nagas, yakshas, gandharvas, and also displease the Buddhas, the Bhagavat. In any case, I must generate the mind, so that the gods do not despise me, and the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, are pleased. Abiding in mindfulness of the sphere of activity, being separated from non-virtuous dharmas, manifestly turning towards virtuous dharmas, truly abiding in abandonment, manifesting the feet of miraculous power, possessing the five faculties, possessing the strength of the five powers, meditating on the seven branches of enlightenment, diligently striving on the eightfold noble path, abiding in tranquility, and to be viewed with higher seeing. O Āyuṣmān, having donned such armor, one should not sleep during the first and last watches of the night, but diligently practice yoga, and always abide in that solitary place, going forth especially. When one abides in that solitary place, one should not strive to adorn the body, one should not strive to adorn the bedding, one should not strive to adorn the Dharma garments. One should take dry old grass, spread it well on the walking and sitting places, be content with one's own seat, the seat of the Sangha, the seat of the Sangha of the four directions, without being defiled, and be content with one's own clothes, and abide in that solitary place. O Āyuṣmān, when a monastic who dwells in solitude enters a village, city, or town for alms in order to nourish the body and stabilize the noble path, one should go to the solitary place with this kind of mind: even if one does not obtain, one should not completely cut off, and even if one obtains, one should not generate joy, one should remember the ripening of karma, one should proclaim merit, one should contemplate the Tathāgata, and one should not enter a village, city, or town for alms. When one goes for alms in a village, city, or town, one should don the armor of Dharma and go for alms. What is the armor of Dharma? When the eye sees pleasing forms, one should not be attached to them. When one sees displeasing forms, one should not be angry either. Likewise, one should not be attached to or angry with sounds, smells, tastes, and tactile sensations, whether pleasing or displeasing. One should strictly guard the senses, not let the eyes wander, look only as far as the yoke, be gentle, and be aware.

With intention and without abandoning the Dharma previously contemplated, one should practice begging with an untainted continuum. One should beg in succession. One should not be attached to where one obtains alms. One should not be angry where one does not obtain them. Even if one does not obtain alms from the eleventh house after begging from ten houses, one should not be completely discouraged. One should think, "These Brahmins and householders are busy people, so they are not necessarily going to give to me. It is wonderful that they even think of me, let alone give alms." One should generate such an idea. In this way, one should practice begging without being completely discouraged. One should generate a mind of love and compassion for any sentient beings that appear in one's sight, whether they are men, women, boys, girls, or even those who have gone to the realm of animals. One should make sure that any sentient beings that appear in my sight, or those who give alms, come into view. One should strive in this way. After taking the alms, whether good or bad, one should look around in all directions, thinking, "In this village, town, or settlement, who is the poor sentient being who needs me to share these alms?" If one sees a poor sentient being, one must share from those alms. If one does not see a poor sentient being, one should think, "Those invisible sentient beings who have not appeared in my sight, I give the first portion of the alms to them. After giving, may they enjoy it purely." Taking those alms, one should go to the place of the monastery, wash the bowl and hands. One should bless it with the practice of asceticism and the good practice of contentment, and then one should sit in the lotus position and eat those alms. After eating without attachment, without malice, without stinginess, and without clinging, one should think, "May the eighty thousand kinds of worms that exist in this body be happy through this. Now these should be gathered with defilement."
