The time of death arrives. Similarly, those who are unrestrained due to craving for many teachings, even if they dwell in the ocean of Dharma, will go to the lower realms. Kāśyapa (འོད་སྲུང་) is like this: a doctor carries a medicine bag and wanders in all directions, but if he is afflicted by a disease and cannot cure it, then his medicine is meaningless. Kāśyapa (འོད་སྲུང་) is also like this: regarding extensive learning as a disease of affliction, if one who is extensively learned cannot cure himself from the disease of affliction, then his extensive learning is meaningless. Therefore, it should be said like this: For example, medicine put in a doctor's medicine bag, though wandering throughout the world, cannot prevent the onset of disease, then that medicine is meaningless. Similarly, a monk who possesses the qualities of discipline, though learned, is not in accordance with the Dharma, if he cannot eliminate the disease of affliction that arises, then his diligence in learning is meaningless. Kāśyapa (འོད་སྲུང་) is like this: for example, if a sick person is given medicine suitable for a king but it is not done according to the ritual, leading to death, similarly, Kāśyapa (འོད་སྲུང་), one who does not keep vows, his death should also be regarded as a disease of affliction from extensive learning. Therefore, it should be said like this: For example, having taken medicine suitable for a king, but not performing the ritual, (name omitted) died. Similarly, one who does not keep vows dies here, that is the disease of affliction from extensive learning. Kāśyapa (འོད་སྲུང་) is like this: for example, if a precious jewel falls into an unclean place, it will be despised and become useless. Kāśyapa (འོད་སྲུང་) is also like this: one should regard extensive learning as falling into the unclean place of seeking gain and honor. Gods and humans will rejoice in those who have nothing. Therefore, it should be said like this: For example, a jewel falling into an unclean place is despised, just as it was before, it will not be like that later. Similarly, a monk who has become extensively learned is also said to have fallen into the unclean place of seeking offerings. Kāśyapa (འོད་སྲུང་) is like this: for example, adorning the head of a corpse with a golden garland, similarly, one should regard a morally corrupt person as wearing monastic robes. Therefore, it should be said like this: For example, adorning the head of a corpse with a golden garland, or adorning it with a flower garland, similarly, seeing someone without discipline wearing monastic robes, the mind will not be pleased. Kāśyapa (འོད་སྲུང་) is like this: for example,

A merchant's son, well-bathed and well-anointed, with hair and beard shaved, wearing white clothes, and wearing a garland of champaka flowers on his head anointed with the finest sandalwood, thus one should regard the one with light, who is virtuous and learned, wearing crimson robes. To this one should say: Well-bathed and well-anointed, on the head of the merchant's son, a garland of champaka flowers, fragrant and pleasing, beautifully worn. Likewise, being virtuous and possessing much learning, possessing perfect virtue, the son of the Victorious One possessing qualities, that crimson robe is likewise beautiful. These four Lights are those who are immoral pretending to be virtuous. What are the four? Light, here some monks are virtuous, they are bound and abide by the vows of individual liberation, possessing perfect rituals and conduct, regarding even the smallest faults as fearful, truly taking up and learning the bases of learning, abiding with body, speech, and mind completely pure, living with a completely pure livelihood, yet they speak of that as self. Light, that is the first of the immoral pretending to be virtuous. Light, also here some monks hold the Vinaya and engage in the Vinaya, abiding in the conduct of the Vinaya, yet they do not arise from the view of the aggregates of destruction. Light, that is the second of the immoral pretending to be virtuous. Light, also here, some monks abide in loving-kindness, they possess loving-kindness focused on sentient beings, yet upon hearing that all conditioned phenomena are unborn, they become afraid, always panicked, and always extremely panicked, that is Light, the immoral pretending to be virtuous, the third. Light, also here some monks truly take up the twelve qualities of purification, yet they view the object, abiding in the grasping of self and the grasping of mine, that is Light, the immoral pretending to be virtuous, the fourth. Light, those four are the immoral pretending to be virtuous. Light, the virtue of virtue.
