When fire arises from being fanned by the wind, it burns itself. Similarly, when the power of wisdom arises, it burns away individual thoughts. Shariputra, for example, when a lamp is blown out, darkness disappears, but from where does that darkness come, or where does it go? There is no coming or going in the east, south, west, or north. Furthermore, Shariputra, the lamp does not think, "I have dispelled the darkness," but nevertheless, relying on the lamp, darkness disappears. Shariputra, both what the lamp is and what the darkness is are empty; they are ungraspable and without function. Shariputra, similarly, when wisdom arises, ignorance disappears, but from where does that ignorance come, or where does it go? There is no coming or going in the east, south, west, or north. Furthermore, Shariputra, wisdom does not think, "I have dispelled ignorance," but nevertheless, relying on wisdom, ignorance disappears. Shariputra, both what wisdom is and what ignorance is are empty; they are ungraspable and without function. Therefore, it is said: For example, a lamp eliminates all darkness, Yet there is no coming or going. Similarly, when wisdom arises, ignorance disappears, Yet from where does it come, or where does it go? The lamp does not think it dispels darkness, But when light arises, darkness disappears. Emptiness is ungraspable, like a flower in the sky. Similarly, both wisdom and ignorance are empty. Shariputra, for example, a house, a building, or a small room, For millions of years, no one has ever blown out the lamp there. If someone blows out the lamp, Shariputra, what do you think? Does the darkness think, "I have accumulated for millions of years, I will not leave from here"? Venerable Lord, no, it does not think that. When the lamp is blown out, the darkness does not have the power to not die; it will certainly disappear. The Blessed One said: Shariputra, similarly, even if karma and afflictions have been accumulated for millions of eons, they should still be properly attended to.

Through individual liberation's distinct discernment, it will cease to exist. Light Protector, called a lamp, this is the supreme expression of the power of the wisdom of the noble ones. Light Protector, darkness, pitch black, this is the supreme expression of the actions and afflictions of the non-noble ones. To this, it is said thus: For example, in a house, some people, some, for a long time, if the lamp is blown out by the wind, to this, darkness self-exists, for a long time, there is no thought of leaving from here. When the lamp is extinguished, darkness is pitch black, there is no ability to disappear, relying on the lamp, darkness will disappear. Both are emptiness, there is nothing to be proud of. Likewise, relying on the uncontaminated wisdom of the noble ones, the accumulation of ignorance and afflictions will disappear. Wisdom and afflictions, forever, they will not meet even a few times. Even if one does not think of eliminating wisdom and ignorance, relying on wisdom, ignorance will disappear. Both are ungraspable, like flowers in the sky. Likewise, both wisdom and ignorance are emptiness. Light Protector, it is like this, for example, in the sky, seeds do not grow. Light Protector, likewise, from the uncompounded, the Dharma of the Buddhas of Bodhisattvas does not arise, has not arisen, will not arise. To this, it is said thus: For example, from the sky, seeds grow, there is no past, future, or present. Likewise, from the uncompounded, the Dharma of the Buddhas, wherever it arises, will not arise. Light Protector, it is like this, for example, in the land filled with manure, all seeds grow. Light Protector, likewise, from the world existence filled with the manure of afflictions, the Dharma of the Buddhas of Bodhisattvas will arise, to this, it is said thus: For example, in a place with manure and moisture, seeds will grow, but not in desolate places. Likewise, in beings filled with afflictions and wrong views, the Dharma of the victorious ones of the princes will grow. Light Protector, it is like this, for example, in desolate places, lotuses do not grow. Light Protector, likewise, in the uncompounded, the Dharma of the Buddhas of Bodhisattvas does not arise, has not arisen, will not arise. To this, it is said thus: For example, lotuses grow in ponds, but never grow in desolate places. Likewise, in the uncompounded
