Having spoken thus, Manjushri said: "Son of the gods, children do various things, so children are the doers of various things. Because they make various ways of looking, therefore they are called 'imitating what has been done.' Son of the gods, sons of good families who truly abide do nothing, neither what should be done nor what should not be done. Because they do nothing, therefore they are called 'not imitating what has been done.' Just as the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, have said: All dharmas are without action, without doing, without special doing, not transcending equality, nor taking from others, nor doing other things, so they are equality. Therefore, they are called 'not imitating what has been done.'" The son of the gods said: "Manjushri, are you forbearance? Or is it the nature of dharma? Where do you abide and speak these words?" Manjushri said: "Son of the gods, I am neither forbearance nor do I abide in the nature of dharma." The son of the gods said: "Manjushri, then where do you abide and speak these words?" Manjushri said: "Son of the gods, in the body of a magical person." The son of the gods said: "Manjushri, where does the body of a magical person abide?" Manjushri said: "Son of the gods, the body of a magical person abides in that which abides in suchness." Son of the gods, furthermore, you say, "Are you forbearance? Or is it the nature of dharma? Where do you abide and speak these words?" Son of the gods, the so-called 'forbearance' is only a name, and one cannot abide in a name. The nature of dharma is also unchanging and without discrimination, therefore, there is no abiding there either. Son of the gods, the Tathagata abides and shows in that which all sentient beings abide, and shows. Why is that? Because the Tathagata abides in suchness and shows. All sentient beings also do not waver from suchness, and the suchness of all sentient beings, and the suchness of the Tathagata, these two are non-dual. Then, the son of the gods, Wisdom Abode, said to Manjushri, who had become a youth: "Manjushri, by what standard are bhikshus and brahmins called bhikshus and brahmins?"

Thus do. Manjushri said: Son of the gods, whoever is neither a Shramana nor a Brahmin, that is called a Shramana, a virtuous person, and a Brahmin. Why is that? Son of the gods, whoever is not attached to the desire realm, nor attached to the form realm and the formless realm, I say that is a Shramana. Son of the gods, whose eyes do not flow, whose ears do not flow, whose nose does not flow, whose tongue does not flow, whose body does not flow, whose mind does not flow, I say that is a Shramana. Son of the gods, whoever has no dwelling place and is not established as a dwelling place, has no universal dwelling place and is not established as a universal dwelling place, I say that is a Shramana. Son of the gods, whoever does not come from anywhere, nor go to anywhere, is without wounds and is free from wounds, I say that is a Brahmin. Whoever is neither a Bhikshu nor a Brahmin, that is called a Bhikshu and a Brahmin, that is the teaching of this word. Then, in that same assembly, there were five Bodhisattvas who were practicing the four dhyanas and had attained the five superknowledges. Because they had not yet attained forbearance, they remained and entered into samadhi, remained and arose. Those Bodhisattvas remembered their past lives of killing their father, killing their mother, and killing an Arhat. Because they still had the residue of the maturation of karma, their minds were completely tormented by suffering, and they could not endure the profound Dharma, but only relied on themselves and engaged in discrimination. Their ground was like this: because they had not attained forbearance towards the Dharma, they were unable to suppress all arising. Then, the Bhagavan, in order to tame those five Bodhisattvas, gathered the mind of Manjushri, who had become a youth. Then, Manjushri, who had become a youth, arose from his seat, draped his upper garment over one shoulder, took a sword in his right hand, wiped it clean, and ran towards the place where the Bhagavan was. Then, the Bhagavan said to Manjushri, who had become a youth: Manjushri, now it is already killed and killed well, let go! Why is that? Manjushri, when beings kill

When the mind arises to generate such a thought, it is because they have been killing for a long time. Then, those five Bodhisattvas thought thus: All dharmas are like illusions, in this there is no self, no sentient being, no life, no person, no power-born, no power-child. In this there is no father, no mother, no Buddha, no Dharma, no Sangha. In this there is also no one who commits the five heinous crimes. What is the reason for that? Because Manjushri, the youth, is wise, intelligent, upright in mind, praised by all Buddhas, praised, able to endure the profound, has served countless hundreds of thousands of kotis of Buddhas, has done excellent deeds for the Buddhas of the past, is skilled in the wisdom of thoroughly distinguishing all dharmas, teaches the Dharma as he knows it, speaks truthfully, is respectful to the Tathagata, he takes up a sharp sword and runs to where the Tathagata is, and the Tathagata also says, "Manjushri has now killed, killed well, let go." If in this there is something called Buddha, called Dharma, called Sangha, called father, called mother, called Arhat, some truly existing dharma is completely established, then that one who commits the five heinous crimes will certainly not arise. For what reason are those dharmas non-existent, inverted, not truly grasped, empty like illusions, therefore in this there is no agent who acts, nor is there any action to be done. When those five Bodhisattvas knew this, they obtained the forbearance of non-arising dharmas. Then, with joy and great joy, they manifested in the sky as high as seven tala trees, and after manifesting, they praised the Bhagavan with these verses: All dharmas are like illusions, they arise from complete understanding, in this there is no accomplishment, all these dharmas are emptiness. The foolish ones are attached to the self, they completely discriminate wrongly, at the edge of the past.
