Wait a moment. Then, those Bodhisattvas will rise from that samadhi and become visible thereafter. Kashyapa, even so, you have attained the state of various samadhis, you should understand how those Bodhisattvas abide by what conduct. Then, the Venerable Mahakashyapa, having heard the words of the Blessed One, in order to observe how those Bodhisattvas abide by what conduct, at that time, by the power of the Buddha and by generating his own strength, entered into twenty thousand samadhis and arose, but did not see them. He did not know the coming and going of those Bodhisattvas. He did not know their abode and their dwelling. He did not know what they were doing and what they were teaching in all of everything. He did not know or see. Then, the Venerable Mahakashyapa said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, in this way, although I have entered into twenty thousand samadhis, I have not seen those Bodhisattvas. Blessed One, it is wonderful! Sugata, it is very wonderful! Blessed One, those Bodhisattvas have not yet attained omniscience, even practicing such peaceful samadhi is like this, then what need is there to mention those Bodhisattvas who have attained the wisdom of omniscience? Blessed One, which son or daughter of good family would not generate the mind for unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment? Blessed One, if a Bodhisattva were to arm himself for the sake of this samadhi in which the entire body is completely destroyed, that would be a well-armed armor, therefore this samadhi should not be abandoned even later. The Blessed One said: Kashyapa, it is just so, just as you have said. This is not possible even for all the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, what need is there to mention other sentient beings? Then, the Venerable Shariputra thought to himself: I have been shown by the Tathagata to be the foremost among the wise, I should observe how those Bodhisattvas abide by what conduct. Then, the Venerable Shariputra

To see those heroes, he entered thirty thousand samādhis and arose, but he could not even know their characteristics. Then, the Venerable Subhūti thought to himself: "I should see those Bodhisattvas." Then, the Venerable Subhūti, in order to see those Bodhisattvas, by the power of the Buddha and by generating his own strength, entered forty thousand samādhis and arose, but he did not know their coming and going, nor did he see them standing, nor did he see them walking, nor did he see them sitting, nor did he see them lying down. He was unable to see them. Then, the Venerable Subhūti touched the two feet of the Blessed One with his head and said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, I have been shown by the Tathāgata to be the foremost of those who abide in non-affliction, because I have attained the samādhis of peace. Blessed One, if this world of the four great continents were to become a single cavity of a great drum, and another world of the four great continents were also to become a single cavity of a great drum, and someone were born there and took a drumstick the size of Mount Sumeru, and came before me who am in samādhi, and did nothing but strike those two great drums continuously until the end of the kalpa, even if that were the case, Blessed One, in order to abide in non-affliction, having practiced in that way and attained the samādhis of peace, even if a kalpa were to pass, the sound of those two great drums would not even be heard in the consciousness of my ear, let alone awaken from that samādhi. That is impossible. Blessed One, possessing such a state of abiding in non-affliction and possessing such wisdom, in order to see those Bodhisattvas, I entered forty thousand samādhis and arose, but I did not see them, nor did I know their abode. Blessed One, if Bodhisattvas were to fully seek such wisdom, then for the sake of each sentient being, they would have to contemplate for as many kalpas as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River.

Even if I were to be burned in the great hell filled with fire, I would be willing to do so, and I would not abandon the inconceivable wisdom of the Blessed One, the Bodhisattvas. Blessed One, if I do not obtain acceptance and am not completely liberated from the outflows, I would rather wander in the cycle of existence until the end of time, and I would not abandon such a great vehicle. Then, the Blessed One gave the venerable Subhuti praise, saying: "Well done! Well done! Subhuti, it is well done that you have spoken these words with such a superior intention! Well done! Subhuti, even if you do not completely pass into nirvana with these aggregates, you will, through this root of virtue, enter into the sovereignty of a wheel-turning monarch as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, and you will also awaken to the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment." Subhuti, are there many sentient beings in the three-thousand great-thousand world realms? He replied: "Blessed One, there are many! Sugata, there are many!" The Blessed One said: "Subhuti, for the sake of complete examination, if all those sentient beings were endowed with the wisdom of a Bhikshu Subhuti, Shariputra, and Mahakashyapa, Subhuti, even if such great Shravakas were to examine those Bodhisattvas for hundreds of thousands of millions of eons, they would not be able to see them. Why is that? Subhuti, because the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas do not practice the Dharmas that the Bodhisattvas practice, Subhuti, that is not the realm of all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas." When this teaching was spoken, eighty-four thousand beings from gods and humans generated the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Then, Manjushri, the youth, while sitting in that very place, thought to himself: "So many Bodhisattvas are gathered here, I should also gather many gods." Then, what kind of miraculous manifestations did Manjushri, the youth, manifest at that time?
