Due to arising, it should be regarded as other causes and conditions. Bodhisattvas should regard the various conceptualizations that arise from improperly attending to the body as the mind's consciousness. Bodhisattvas should regard the body as ultimately ending up in the charnel ground, so it should not be fabricated. Bodhisattvas should regard the body as food for wolves, foxes, and naked flesh-eating dogs. Bodhisattvas should regard the body as being connected by bones and tendons, like a mechanical device. Bodhisattvas should regard the body as being completely filled with feces, urine, saliva, snot, pus, and blood, and as not being worthy of being looked at. Bodhisattvas should regard the body as arising from food and drink, and as not being under one's own control. Bodhisattvas should regard the body as impermanent, as being of the nature of complete decay, and therefore as being a meaningless gap. Bodhisattvas should regard the body as giving rise to many external disturbances, like an enemy. Bodhisattvas should regard the body as repeatedly experiencing suffering, like being killed. Bodhisattvas should regard the body as being tormented by the three sufferings. What are the three? Namely, the suffering of conditioning, the suffering of change, and the suffering of suffering itself, and therefore as being a container of suffering. Bodhisattvas should regard the body as being composed of the five aggregates, and therefore as being a collection of suffering. Bodhisattvas should regard the body as arising from different causes and conditions, and therefore as being without self and without a lord. Bodhisattvas should regard the body as being separated from male and female, and therefore as being without life. Bodhisattvas should regard the body as being empty, composed of aggregates, elements, and sense bases. Bodhisattvas should regard the body as being like a dream, and as being illusory. Bodhisattvas should regard the body as being like a magic trick, and as not being real. Bodhisattvas should regard the body as being like a mirage, and as being deceptive. Bodhisattvas should regard the body as being like an echo, and as being deceptive. Bodhisattvas should regard the body as being like a magic show, and as being of the nature of deception. Householders, Bodhisattvas, great beings, in this way...

One should examine the body with those forty-four aspects. Having thus examined, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva should abandon all desire for the body, delight in the body, considering the body as one's own, craving for the body, abiding in the body, and attachment to the body. One should abandon all desire for life, delight in life, considering life as one's own, craving for life, abiding in life, and attachment to life. Similarly, one should abandon all desire, delight, considering as one's own, craving, abiding, and attachment to wealth, grain, houses, wives, sons, daughters, food, drink, clothing, vehicles, bedding, flowers, incense, perfumes, garlands, ointments, and all kinds of implements. He does not look to body and life. Likewise, without looking to wealth, grain, houses, wives, sons, daughters, food, drink, clothing, vehicles, bedding, flowers, incense, perfumes, and ointments, he quickly perfects the six perfections. Householders, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, having perfected the six perfections, quickly attains the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Then, the Blessed One, in order to extensively show the body, at that time spoke these verses: Difficult to find, extremely hard to obtain, having obtained, Do not commit sins for the sake of the body. This is like a charnel ground, food for jackals, Do not fall into terror for the sake of the body. Having generated craving for the deceitful body, The childish ones are always deluded and wander. This body is an ungrateful thing, Day and night experiencing the feeling of suffering. Always an internal cycle of suffering, This body is filled with foul odors and saliva. Always tormented by hunger and thirst, Which wise person would generate craving for the body? The body is like a bottomless pit, not knowing satisfaction, Like an unfriendly executioner, yet worn by childish ones. For the sake of the body, one also commits sinful deeds, Therefore, those are suffering.
