The past one declared: Great King, do you think that the wealth you possess through the power of kingship in this life, such as gold, jewels, mani jewels, lapis lazuli, conch shells, tridacna, coral, amber, silver, horses, elephants, chariots, small armies, mounts, treasuries, and granaries, is your true wealth? Great King, true wealth is generosity, taming, skillful guarding, patience, determination, discipline, brahmacharya, asceticism, diligence, the merits of cultivation, dwelling in reduced possessions, loving-kindness, compassion, joy, dwelling in equanimity, and delight in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, faith, discipline, learning, giving, wisdom, shame, modesty, steadfastness, and guarding. Do you think these are your true wealth? Great King, even if all the beings under your dominion were as wealthy as you, they could not endure even one hundredth part of the accumulation of merit from the discipline, learning, brahmacharya, asceticism, and diligence of the Determiner, who has abandoned seven steps, nor even an analogy. King Clear Light reported: Blessed One, it is a great gain for me that beings with such great qualities dwell in my land and that I am able to reside here. The Blessed One declared: Great King, there are many beings with such great qualities dwelling in your land. Then, King Clear Light spoke to the Determiner in verse: Because your words have shattered my pride, Determiner, you are my second teacher. I give you all this kingdom, and I, with my army, am your disciple; please teach me. For a long time, I have been deceived by pride, surrounded and controlled by evil friends. Now that I have heard this Dharma from you, Determiner, I will restrain myself thoroughly and act according to the Dharma. A hundred dwelling at home…

These five punishments are: I put him in prison for the sake of money. I have given up everything. May he be happy. I will not do such a thing in the future. Those five hundred that have been given up, cultivate them well. With a sorrowful heart, disregarding everything, I prayed to the all-knowing one. I said, "I am not poor, you are poor." You certainly said these words. If someone says that someone is poor, that person violates the king's law. Then, the noble one, the son of the family, certainly said this to the Blessed One. "Blessed One, this great assembly of people is not satisfied with seeing the Blessed One, so Blessed One, for their sake, in any way, may they see the Tathagata meaningfully. Please explain the Dharma well to them." The Blessed One said, "Certainly, son of the family, having four qualities, one can see the Tathagata well." What are the four? They are trust, faith, cherishing, and respect. Having these four qualities, one can see the Tathagata well. There are also four: Seeing the body of the Tathagata, one aspires to become like that, generating the mind in the unexcelled, perfect, complete enlightenment, and because the Tathagata does not deceive, generating a mind of completely pure higher intention, and also generating the mind in order to guide all sentient beings, especially to liberate them, and also generating the mind to uphold the true Dharma in order not to interrupt the lineage of the Three Jewels. Having these four qualities, one can see the Tathagata well. There are also four: Seeing form as emptiness, and also feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness as emptiness, and also seeing the four elements as being like the sky, and also seeing the sense bases as being like an empty city. Having these four qualities, one can see the Tathagata well. There are also four: Because of selflessness, the self is completely pure, because there are no sentient beings

Because beings are pure, because there is no life, life is pure, and because there is no person, the person is pure. If one possesses these four, one will see the Tathagata well. Furthermore, there are four: to manifest the divine eye, to fully train the eye of wisdom, to discern with the eye of Dharma, and to realize the Buddha-eye accordingly. If one possesses these four, one will see the Tathagata well. Furthermore, there are four: because all dharmas are imperceptible, the aggregate of morality is completely pure; because all dharmas are of equal nature, the aggregate of samadhi is completely pure; because one comprehends transcendent wisdom, the aggregate of wisdom is completely pure; and because one sees its liberation, the aggregate of the wisdom of liberation is completely pure. O निश्चित, son of lineage, if you possess these four dharmas, you will see the Tathagata well. Then, the Bhagavan made those great assemblies of beings very happy with the words of Dharma, and then, like the first king, ascended into the sky with his retinue. Then, King Prasenajit of Kosala said to the son of lineage निश्चित: O निश्चित, whenever you go to see the Tathagata, invite me as well, and I will also go to see the Tathagata. निश्चित said: Great King, I will do so. I shall go to see the Tathagata with your women, youths, ministers, and other retinues. Great King, Bodhisattvas do not enter for the benefit of myself alone; Bodhisattvas are beautiful in a large retinue. The king said: O निश्चित, what is the retinue of a Bodhisattva? निश्चित said: Great King, all beings are the retinue of a Bodhisattva, for the sake of fully ripening and taming them. Great King, Furthermore, the mind of enlightenment, which causes others to uphold perfect enlightenment because they do not desire other vehicles, is the retinue of a Bodhisattva. Great King, sentient beings
