One should think in this way. Good Hands, furthermore, a Bodhisattva trains in this way, truly and completely: If someone takes my life, or steals all my possessions, or steals my wife, or speaks falsely, or speaks divisively, or speaks harshly, or speaks nonsensically, or scolds, or kills, or seizes, or beats, or cuts, etc., and again harms others, or is again angry, and holds resentment in their heart, then the suffering feeling of that sinful, unwholesome action of harming again, being angry again, and holding resentment in their heart, is undesirable, unlovely, and displeasing. Compared to this, the ripening of karma and the karmic cause for me will be a hundredfold or a thousandfold. Therefore, even more undesirable, unlovely, and displeasing suffering will arise. Good Hands, furthermore, a Bodhisattva trains in this way, truly and completely: Because there is life, life will be taken. Because there are possessions, possessions will be stolen. Because there is the ear faculty, one will hear false speech, divisive speech, harsh speech, and nonsensical speech. Because there is a body, one will be dragged, bound, seized, beaten, and cut. If one's own self has taken the object of suffering, the basis of suffering, the life faculty, the ear faculty, and the body, then how could one again harm others, be angry again, and hold resentment in their heart? Good Hands, furthermore, a Bodhisattva trains in this way, truly and completely: For example, the characteristic of the earth element is hardness. That is its nature, that is its dharma nature, that is its intrinsic nature. The characteristic of the water element is wetness, the characteristic of the fire element is heat, and the characteristic of the wind element is lightness and movement. That is its nature, that is its dharma nature, that is its intrinsic nature. Likewise, all sentient beings are of the nature of exhaustion, of the nature of decline, and of the nature of cessation. All faculties are of the nature of suffering, of the nature of suffering gathering and contacting, and of the nature of experiencing suffering. All bodies are of the nature of suffering, of the nature of suffering gathering and contacting, and of the nature of experiencing suffering. That is its nature, that is its dharma

This is nature. The life force is of the nature of exhaustion, of the nature of decay, of the nature of cessation, exhausted and decayed and ceased, the six faculties are of the nature of suffering, of the nature of suffering gathering and touching, to those who experience suffering, how can one again cut off, or again be angry, or scowl and hold grudges against other beings who are touched by the gathering of suffering? Why is that? This is essence, this is Dharma nature, this is nature, so it is thought. Good Hand! Furthermore, the Bodhisattva thus correctly learns: My eyes and ears and nose and tongue and body and mind are also selfless and not mine, and the eyes and ears and nose and tongue and body and mind of other beings are also selfless and not mine, wise and intelligent ones, to the eyes and ears and nose and tongue and body and mind that are selfless and not mine, the eyes and ears and nose and tongue and body and mind that are selfless and not mine, how can one rejoice, or be attached to them, or truly rejoice, or strike, or again harm, or again be angry, scowl and hold grudges? So it is thought. Good Hand! Furthermore, the Bodhisattva thus correctly learns: For example, the suffering of being born as a human is little and small. The suffering of a hungry ghost is most unbearable and most difficult to endure. The suffering of the birth place of animals and the suffering of sentient hell beings are also most unbearable and difficult to endure, how can I, for the sake of little and small suffering, again harm other beings, and again be angry, scowl and hold grudges? So it is thought. Good Hand! Furthermore, the Bodhisattva thus correctly learns: Whoever desires the benefit of only oneself, and desires to benefit only oneself, and in turn harms and in turn is angry with other beings, scowling and holding grudges, that is also unreasonable, not appropriate. I desire the benefit of all beings in the world, to benefit all beings in the world, adorned with great armor, vowing with great vows, correctly entering the Great Vehicle, fulfilling the vast Dharma of the Buddha.
