The Sutra of the Great Vehicle, Called "Asked by the Noble Hand-Wise". The Sutra of the Great Vehicle, Called "Asked by the Noble Hand-Wise". Chapter Twenty-Six, Asked by Hand-Wise, from the Hundred Thousand Chapters of the Noble Great Jewel Heap Dharma Category. Volume One. In Indian language: Ārya Subāhuparipṛcchānāma Mahāyāna Sūtra. In Tibetan language: The Sutra of the Great Vehicle, Called "Asked by the Noble Hand-Wise". Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas. Thus I have heard, at one time, the Bhagavan was dwelling in the Bamboo Grove of Kalandaka in the Garden of Light in Rajagriha. He was together with a great Sangha of monks. At that time, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva named Hand-Wise, together with his retinue, came from the great city of Rajagriha to the Garden of Light, the Bamboo Grove of Kalandaka, to where the Bhagavan was. Having arrived, he bowed his head to the feet of the Bhagavan, circumambulated the Bhagavan three times, and sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva Hand-Wise, at the place of the Bhagavan, bared one shoulder, folded his palms, and asked the Bhagavan thus: "Bhagavan, with what qualities does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva quickly realize the Unsurpassed, Perfect, and Complete Enlightenment?" Having asked thus, the Bhagavan said to the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva Hand-Wise: "Hand-Wise, for the sake of quickly realizing manifest enlightenment, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should always and continuously perfect these six perfections. What are the six? They are: the perfection of generosity, the perfection of ethics, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, and the perfection of wisdom. Hand-Wise, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should always and continuously perfect these six perfections. Hand-Wise, a Bodhisattva

So, how does a great Bodhisattva perfect the perfection of giving? Good Hand, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva does not seek enjoyment entirely through the Dharma, it is not so. It is because of equality, not because of inequality. He does not harm other living beings and other sentient beings, he gives without causing them to be afraid, not for the sake of speech, sound, and verses, not because of shyness, not because of fear, not in the hope of returning favors, not for the sake of heaven, not to pretend, not to flatter, and not to despise. Whether it is the object of giving or not the object of giving, whether it has supernormal powers or does not have supernormal powers, whether it has discipline or is immoral, whether it is a familiar person or an unfamiliar person, whether it is a friend or not a friend, treat them with respect, regard them as a teacher, serve them, make offerings to them, and with strong intention, strong joy, and strong faith, even if they have little, they give little, even if they have much, they give much, even if they have good, they give good, even if they have bad, they give bad, even if they have precious, they give precious. Good Hand, just as a Bodhisattva gives with hundreds of thousands of gifts and a great heart, a joyful heart, even something as small as a Kakanika, he gives with a great heart and a joyful heart. Therefore, for those who want food, in order to enable all sentient beings to obtain the stability of the unsurpassed power of the omniscient wisdom, he gives food. For those who want drink, in order to enable all sentient beings to obtain the power to eliminate all the thirst of afflictions, he gives drink. For those who want clothes, in order to enable all sentient beings to obtain clothes of shame and modesty, he gives clothes. For those who want vehicles, in order to enable all sentient beings to obtain the unsurpassed vehicle of the Bodhisattva vehicle and the perfectly enlightened Buddha vehicle, he gives vehicles. For those who want incense, in order to enable all sentient beings to obtain all the fragrance of the Buddha's discipline, he gives incense. For those who want flowers, in order to enable all sentient
