Tooth ornaments and so on, strive to abandon, relinquish, and eliminate fear through generosity. Strive, be diligent. At all times, or even slightly, learn generosity, giving, and complete giving, and strive to increase and perfect them. Strive, be diligent. Even when reborn in other existences, one will not become discouraged or lazy. O Good Hand, the generation of the mind of enlightenment by Bodhisattvas, the recollection of the mind of enlightenment, the cultivation of the mind of enlightenment, the aspiration for enlightenment, and the establishment of vows for enlightenment, these are their immeasurable and countless great generosity, great giving, and great complete giving. Why is that? For example, in all realms of the world, wanting to bestow the rain of the noble Dharma upon all sentient beings, wanting to bestow the rain of the realm of nectar, wanting to give the rain of the noble Dharma, wanting to give the rain of the realm of nectar, wanting to completely give the rain of the noble Dharma, wanting to completely give the rain of the realm of nectar, this is the most excellent among all generosity, giving, and complete giving. That is excellent. O Good Hand, in this way, Bodhisattvas, endowed with happiness and mental happiness, quickly perfect the perfection of generosity with little effort and little suffering. O Good Hand, when Bodhisattvas are begged by beggars, they do not cut off limbs, nor do they cut them off and then give them to the beggars. Why is that? Because they themselves would become great evil beings, and they would not completely abandon vast unwholesome actions. It is not that one does not give away one's own limbs for the sake of other sentient beings or for the sake of other sentient beings. O Good Hand, if beggars beg for all possessions from Bodhisattvas, great beings, if they harm and abandon their parents, causing them suffering, and harm and abandon their sons, wives, male servants, female servants, laborers, and those who live by shares, causing them suffering.

Having done that, one does not give alms to all those who come to beg. Why is that? Bodhisattvas have equal love for all sentient beings, just as they do not harm, abandon, or cause suffering to their parents. They do not harm or abandon their sons, wives, male servants, female servants, employees, or those who live on wages, nor do they cause them suffering. Instead, they nourish all sentient beings equally, just as they give alms. It is not for the sake of other sentient beings, nor for the sake of other sentient beings, that one completely abandons all possessions. Good Hand, the Tathagatas do not praise the giving of alms that harms sentient beings. How could it be so, when Bodhisattvas disregard even the cutting of their own limbs? Good Hand, how does a Bodhisattva perfect the pāramitā of ethics? Good Hand, here, even for the sake of their own lives, Bodhisattvas do not strike or kill other living beings or other sentient beings, nor do they rejoice in killing. Even for the sake of their lives, they do not take what is not given, nor do they allow others to take what is not given, nor do they rejoice in taking what is not given. Even for the sake of their lives, they do not engage in sexual misconduct, nor do they allow others to engage in sexual misconduct, nor do they rejoice in sexual misconduct.

. Similarly, one should strive to avoid, abandon, and eliminate divisive speech, harsh speech, and meaningless speech. All creatures and all sentient beings are like my parents. Just as one cherishes an only child, even if parents and a cherished only child are angry with me, I should not be angry in return. Even if they strike me with their hands, feet, sticks, swords, or arrows, I should not strike back. Even if they kill me, I should not kill them in return. Just as I should not be angry in return even if parents and a cherished only child are angry with me, so too, I should not treat all creatures and all sentient beings in this way. Even if they strike me with their hands, feet, sticks, swords, or arrows, I should not strike back. Even if they kill me, I should not kill them in return, so I teach. For example, just as one feels happy and at ease when seeing parents or a cherished only child who has been wandering in a foreign land for a long time return, so too, the Bodhisattva with Good Hands, the Great Being, also feels happy and at ease when seeing all creatures and all sentient beings. His precept of abstaining from killing is so that all sentient beings may abide in the unlearned precept, which is abstaining from killing. His precept of abstaining from taking what is not given is so that all sentient beings may abide in the unlearned precept, which is abstaining from taking what is not given. His precept of abstaining from sexual misconduct is so that all sentient beings may abide in the unlearned precept, which is celibacy. His precept of abstaining from lying is so that all sentient beings may abide in the unlearned precept, which is abstaining from lying. His precept of abstaining from drinking alcohol is so that all sentient beings may abide in the unlearned precept, which is abstaining from drinking alcohol. His precept of abstaining from plowing fields and causing others to plow fields is so that all sentient beings may attain samadhi that is as indestructible as a vajra. His precept of abstaining from binding and causing others to bind is so that all the bonds of affliction of all sentient beings may be severed. His precept of abstaining from entering hell and causing others to enter hell is to prevent all sentient beings from the five realms of existence.
