Furthermore, one fully understands the cessation of dependent origination. By listening to, upholding, increasing, and fully comprehending these teachings, one can fully understand the three times. What are the three times? They are the past, the future, and the present. These are the three times to be understood. Whatever action ceases, that is the past to be understood. Whatever action is in the future and has not yet arisen, that is the future to be understood. Whatever action arises in the present and becomes present, that is the present to be understood. Therefore, recalling one's own non-virtuous roots of the past, one rebukes and belittles them, and definitely abandons them. Regarding one's own non-virtuous roots of the future, even if they are as small as dust, one sees them fully ripening, sees them ripening unpleasantly, sees them ripening undesirably, sees them as frightening and remains (vigilant). One does not open the opportunity for one's own non-virtuous roots of the present to arise, but restrains them with bodily discipline, restrains them with verbal discipline, restrains them with mental discipline, and restrains them with the discipline of the six senses. Therefore, recalling one's own virtuous roots of the past, as well as generating the mind of enlightenment, aspiring to the mind of enlightenment, and making vows for the mind of enlightenment, with strong intention, strong joy, and strong faith, one dedicates them for the sake of saving all sentient beings, for liberating all sentient beings, for comforting all sentient beings, for attaining omniscience, and for perfecting all the Buddha's teachings. Regarding one's own virtuous roots of the future, as well as generating the mind of enlightenment, aspiring to enlightenment, and making vows for enlightenment, also with strong intention, strong joy, and strong faith, one desires, believes, and prays with intention for the sake of saving all sentient beings, for liberating all sentient beings, for comforting all sentient beings, for attaining omniscience, and for perfecting all the Buddha's teachings. The stream of one's own virtuous mind arising in the present, and the continuum of mind, are also for the sake of saving all sentient beings.

In order to liberate all sentient beings, to bring comfort to all sentient beings, to attain omniscience, and to perfect all the Buddha's teachings, one should always and continuously not abandon it. Do not let it decline. Do not let it be forgotten. Do not let it be neglected. The aggregates, elements, and sense bases of the past are gone, ceased, non-existent, and not present; therefore, they are now without self and without what belongs to self. The aggregates, elements, and sense bases of the future are unborn, unarisen, and not present; therefore, they are now without self and without what belongs to self. The aggregates, elements, and sense bases of the present time are impermanent and do not remain. Why is that? Because the world does not remain longer than a moment. The moment's time of arising is different, the time of abiding is different, and the time of ceasing is different; any moment has no abiding and no remaining. Whatever is the time of a moment is the internal and external aggregates, elements, and sense bases. Whatever is the internal and external aggregates, elements, and sense bases is time. Whatever is the aggregate, element, and sense base that arises in the present does not remain even for a moment; since it does not remain, there is no self or what belongs to self. Furthermore, when it becomes the future, at that time it is unborn, unarisen, and not present. It is not mine, and it is not me. When it has passed and ceased, and has not arisen and becomes non-existent, at that time it also becomes without self and without what belongs to self. Whatever is without self and without what belongs to self in the three times, because it is unborn and non-existent, the wise and intelligent should not regard this as 'mine,' 'this is me,' or 'this of mine exists,' and should not cling to it as self. Therefore, one should abide in the perception of no-self, the perception of detachment from desire, the perception of abandonment, and the perception of cessation in all existences and all formations, and also not actualize cessation. Whoever thus knows the three times well should listen to, hold, increase, and thoroughly contemplate those teachings.
