Thinking, "Because there are (aggregates), therefore there is a self"; or thinking, "Is the self here like this? Will the self become something else? Will it become the same as that? Or will it become something else? Will I arise here? Will I arise like that? Or will I arise as something else? Did I arise here before? Do I arise here now? Will I arise elsewhere in the future?" In this way, clinging to those things as "I." This is the view of the perishable aggregate, as well as the pride of "I am," the abode of the mind, clinging, the latent tendency of pride, the arising of pride, the acceptance of considering something as self, greed, hatred, delusion, and all arrogance, as well as the actions of body, speech, and mind, whether they tend towards merit, or tend towards non-merit, or tend towards immovability, whether they belong to the desire realm, or belong to the form realm, or belong to the formless realm, all these are called the noble truth of the origin of suffering. The exhaustion of greed, the exhaustion of hatred, the exhaustion of delusion, the exhaustion of arrogance, the abandonment of clinging to self, the abandonment of accepting something as self, this is called the noble truth of the cessation of suffering. Considering suffering as suffering, considering arising as arising, considering cessation as cessation, considering the path as the path, dwelling by observing the faults in conditioned phenomena, dwelling by observing the benefits in nirvana, seeing as it is, and the right view of separately observing what has been done, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, right concentration, this is called the noble truth of the path leading to the cessation of suffering. These are called the four noble truths. When these four noble truths are observed, contemplated, understood, and analyzed, one will see the impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness of the conditioned realm. For the unconditioned realm, one will see it as refuge, place, protector, and friend, and one will not make the unconditioned realm manifest. Like this
