So! In that, because of the perception of form internally, one contemplates the characteristics of external small forms, both beautiful and ugly, thereby perfecting the first overcoming birth-place and abiding in it. In that, because of the perception of form internally, one contemplates the characteristics of external immeasurable forms, both beautiful and ugly, thereby perfecting the second overcoming birth-place and abiding in it. When that dead body is burned, one meditates and practices the fear that wind or water makes even the ashes non-existent, and that when crushed, even powder is non-existent, and that when turned to dust, even dust is non-existent, because of the perception of no form internally, one contemplates the characteristics of external small forms, both beautiful and ugly, thereby perfecting the third overcoming birth-place and abiding in it. Similarly, because of the perception of no form internally, one contemplates the characteristics of external immeasurable forms, both beautiful and ugly, thereby perfecting the fourth overcoming birth-place and abiding in it. Similarly, because of the perception of no form internally, one contemplates the characteristics of external immeasurable, pleasing blue forms, thereby perfecting the fifth overcoming birth-place and abiding in it. Similarly, because of the perception of no form internally, one contemplates the characteristics of external immeasurable, pleasing yellow, red, and white forms, thereby perfecting the sixth, seventh, and eighth overcoming birth-places and abiding in it. He contemplates the characteristic that "this is infinite," thereby perfecting it in the place of cessation and abiding in it. He contemplates the characteristics of water, fire, wind, blue, yellow, red, white, space, and infinite consciousness, thereby perfecting it in the cessation of water, the cessation of fire, the cessation of wind, the cessation of blue, the cessation of yellow, the cessation of red, the cessation of white, the cessation of space, and the cessation of consciousness and abiding in it. When he enters into samadhi, he closely attaches his mind to the aim of all virtuous roots, focusing on great compassion, and completely grasping the excellent Dharma.
