One should not examine the faults of others. One should not generate thoughts such as, "I am particularly superior, I am the best." Arrogance is the root of all carelessness. Do not despise inferior monks, otherwise one will not attain liberation for an eon. This is the order in this teaching. Therefore, a monk who desires qualities, even if he is a hero, should abandon talk of lineage, and with joy and great delight, dwell in solitude like a rhinoceros. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya addressed the Bhagavan thus: "Bhagavan, in this way, for the sake of completely abandoning white dharma, accumulating many faults of gathering, lacking qualities, possessing harm, gathering and increasing afflictions, and engaging in unwholesome conduct, it is truly wondrous! Bhagavan, which wise Bodhisattva who seeks virtue would not rejoice in being alone?" "Bhagavan, how should a Bodhisattva examine the faults of delighting in speech? If a Bodhisattva understands, he will rejoice in the complete certainty of meaning, and will not become weary from contemplating the meaning." After he spoke thus, the Bhagavan said to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya: "Maitreya, in this regard, a Bodhisattva should examine twenty faults of delighting in speech. What are the twenty? Maitreya, in this regard, a monk who delights in speech becomes arrogant and haughty from much hearing, and becomes disrespectful; because he is devoted to speaking of disputes, he becomes attached to factions; because he lacks proper attention inwardly, he becomes forgetful of mindfulness; because his body and mind are not well subdued, he engages in conduct without awareness; because he declines from patience with the Dharma, he becomes full of pride and flattery; because he has completely abandoned shamatha and vipashyana, his mind-stream becomes wild and untamed; because of the habit of speaking, he speaks out of season; because he has not attained noble wisdom, he becomes unrestrained; he is not respected by gods and nagas; he is despised by those who have attained individual perfect enlightenment; the body
