As I understand it, Bodhisattvas should not manifest karmic obscurations, should purify karmic obscurations, and should be free from obstacles and harm, and attain complete liberation in bliss. Therefore, in the final five hundred years, one should have faith in all the conduct of Bodhisattvas, increase the absence of doubt, not seek the faults of others, fully uphold benefits, and seek the essence. The Blessed One said: Maitreya, it is just so. Bodhisattvas should increase the absence of doubt in the conduct of Bodhisattvas. Why is that? Maitreya, the conduct of Bodhisattvas who practice wisdom is different from all the world. Maitreya, for example, a stream-enterer may also appear in the conduct of ordinary people, but they will not be defiled by the faults of ordinary people. That is to say, the attachment, hatred, and ignorance that cause ordinary people to fall, those very attachment, hatred, and ignorance will not cause a stream-enterer to fall, because they have completely realized the aggregates. Maitreya, similarly, Bodhisattvas who practice wisdom, even if they are attached and confused about abandonment because they have not abandoned their habitual tendencies, they are still different from ordinary people. Why is that? Because the habitual tendencies that lie dormant in their minds will not make the minds of Bodhisattvas the same as those of ordinary people or those who are not skilled in taming and renunciation. Maitreya, Bodhisattvas, great beings, even if they commit the heaviest of all faults, they can turn them into dust with the power of wisdom, and therefore they will not fall. Maitreya, for example, if a large pile of wood is added to a burning fire, the more it is added, the more the fire will blaze, and the fire will not go out. Maitreya, similarly, when the fire of wisdom of a Bodhisattva who practices wisdom is burning, afflictions
