Thus it was said. World Honored One, thus in the final five hundred years, when the true Dharma is about to perish, Bodhisattvas with perverted wisdom will appear. They will seek confidence, but will not rejoice in confidence. They will also seek Dharani, but will also slander the Dharma of the Dharma-holding monks. This is amazing. World Honored One, for example, if someone wants to seek water from a spring, a well, or the sea, he throws alkali salt into it. After throwing alkali salt, he thinks of seeking water. He smells the water with his nose, but he does not realize his own fault. He thinks that this water smells bad, and blames the water. World Honored One, in that case, by the power of the Buddha, those Dharma-speaking monks who have confidence in this Dharma should be regarded as springs, wells, or the sea. World Honored One, in the final five hundred years, the Bodhisattvas who will appear are like those with childish nature who throw alkali salt into springs, wells, or the sea, and then think of seeking water. Just as they blame the water, those with perverted wisdom will also slander the Dharma-speakers and the Dharma. After slandering, they also think of seeking the taste of Dharma from them. However, they do not realize their own faults. With faulty ears, they despise and belittle those Dharma-holding monks, and say: These Dharma-speaking monks have been slandered by many faults. Thus, they slander and seek errors in the taste of the Dharma of those Dharma-speaking monks, and think of abandoning the place of faults. Then, the World Honored One praised the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya and said: Well done! Maitreya, well done! Well done! You who have never sought errors and are free from all faults have spoken this metaphor well. Maitreya, there are also four causes and conditions. It should be known that all confidence is spoken by the Buddha. What are the four? Maitreya, in this, confidence is in accordance with meaning, not in accordance with meaning; in accordance with Dharma, not in accordance with Dharma.

not complete, is to pacify afflictions, not to increase afflictions, is to show the merits and benefits of nirvana, not to increase the faults of samsara. Maitreya, if you have these four reasons, you should know that all reasons are spoken by the Buddha. Maitreya, whether it is a monk, a nun, a male lay practitioner, or a female lay practitioner, whoever it is, based on these four reasons, or will be based on them, then, faithful sons or daughters of good families should generate the perception of the Buddha and the perception of the teacher towards them, and then listen to the Dharma. Why? Maitreya, because everything that is well spoken is spoken by the Buddha. Maitreya, if someone says that these are not spoken by the Buddha because they hate others. By abandoning these four reasons and generating disrespect towards them, then he has abandoned all the reasons spoken by the Buddha, abandoned the Dharma, and created the karma of being impoverished by the Dharma, and will fall into evil destinies. Maitreya, therefore, any faithful son or daughter of a good family who wants to be completely liberated from the karma of being impoverished by the Dharma should not hate the Dharma because they hate others. Maitreya, these four reasons are abandoned by the Buddhas. Maitreya, what are the four? The reason is meaningless, not meaningful, not in accordance with the Dharma, not in accordance with the Dharma, increasing afflictions, not pacifying afflictions, increasing the faults of samsara, not showing the merits and benefits of nirvana. Maitreya, these four reasons are abandoned and not permitted by the Buddha. Then, Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya said to Bhagavan: Bhagavan, if the Buddha does not permit the reason for increasing samsara, then in order to perfect the limbs of enlightenment, the afflictions you spoke of, Bhagavan, are

Furthermore, it was said that it benefits Bodhisattvas and praises the complete upholding of samsara. What is the meaning of this? World Honored One, is this fearlessness not the fearlessness of the Buddha? The World Honored One said: Maitreya, what do you think? Is it meaningful that I have shown that afflictions are beneficial for the sake of perfecting the limbs of enlightenment of Bodhisattvas, and that I have praised the complete upholding of samsara? Or is it meaningless? He replied: World Honored One, if one speaks with truthful words, then delighting in afflictions for the sake of perfecting the limbs of enlightenment of Bodhisattvas is meaningful and in accordance with the Dharma. If I know, then that is speaking with truthful words. The World Honored One said: Maitreya, therefore, in this way, it is shown that afflictions are beneficial for the sake of perfecting the limbs of enlightenment of Bodhisattvas, and praising the complete upholding of samsara, one should know that all well-spoken words are spoken by the Buddha. Why is that? Maitreya, whatever the Dharma sovereignty of the Bodhisattva, what is to be controlled by those skilled in means, and what is not possessed by all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, that should not be regarded as an affliction, it is not the harm of affliction. Maitreya, even so, for those afflictions that cannot benefit others, cannot be for the sake of perfecting the limbs of enlightenment, are meaningless, and cannot even be the cause of small roots of virtue, the Bodhisattva should dedicate even body and life, but should not be dominated by those afflictions. Why is that? Maitreya, the teaching of the afflictions by which the Bodhisattva has obtained the power of increasing wisdom is also different, and the afflictions of those who abide on the ground where the Bodhisattva has not obtained the power of increasing are also different. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya said this to the World Honored One. The World Honored One said
