transformations, and those that Bodhisattvas should comprehend and, having comprehended, should also completely abandon, are those. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya addressed the Blessed One, saying: Blessed One, will these sixty Bodhisattvas be obscured by the obscurations of karma at the time of death? Or will others also be obscured? After he had spoken thus, the Blessed One spoke to the Bodhisattva Maitreya, saying: Maitreya, in the final five hundred years, most Bodhisattvas will be obscured by karmic obscurations. Among them, some Bodhisattvas will exhaust their karmic obscurations, while others will increase them. Maitreya, furthermore, among these sixty Bodhisattvas, twenty Bodhisattvas with minor and subtle karmic obscurations will be born in the final five hundred years. Those individuals will be skilled in cities and towns and in various great families, skilled in craftsmanship, gentle-minded, skilled in wisdom and means, gentle-hearted, possessing abundant beneficial things, great compassion, beautiful, pleasing to behold, not boastful of virtue, concealing their qualities, and steadfast in conduct. Having renounced from various lineages, they will protect and uphold all of this, having accomplished unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment in countless eons. They will even dedicate their bodies and lives, relying on solitary places, forests, and remote dwellings, and will not desire gain and respect. They will be constantly diligent and exceedingly diligent, skilled in engaging in the conduct of sentient beings, skilled in secret mantras and treatises, able to understand through summaries, skilled in insight, and will become fearless. Those who have obtained inexhaustible dharanis will teach the Dharma to the four assemblies through the power of the Buddhas and the blessings of the Buddhas, and will proclaim the Sutra Pitaka, the Geya, the Vyakarana, the Gatha, the Udana, the Nidana, the Avadana, the Itivuttaka, and the Jataka, which were spoken by the Tathagatas.

They will be proud of the sections of sects, and the sections of the extremely extensive, and the sections of the wonderful Dharma, and the sutras of the sections of the definitively established teachings. Nowadays, those twenty Bodhisattvas who are skilled in means will repeat the words of the teacher and also repeat the words of the Khenpo, saying: 'I have fully understood this Dharma category from so-and-so teacher and so-and-so Khenpo.' They will not cling to the minds of those holy beings. There, those Bodhisattvas who are not skilled in means will appear, they will abide in lazy virtue, and without regarding it with pride, they will make it known to many people. They will not uphold the holy Dharma. They will also mock in this way: 'You preach the Dharma with your own pride, but this is not what the Tathagata said. This Dharma is something you have made up yourself. The Dharma that you teach is a self-made treatise. You don't have to respect this, nor do you have to revere it.' They will say this, and there, many sentient beings will abandon this Dharma category. Having said these words, many people will turn away from their aspirations. They will also say this: 'Those monks generally enjoy material things such as offerings, but they do not teach the Dharma that arises from the Sutras and Vinaya. This is not Dharma, do not generate reverence for this.' Those foolish people will not know that whatever is said well, all of that is the Buddha's teaching. Through the blessings of the demons, they will cause those Dharma-holding monks to abandon the Dharma, thereby creating the karma that leads to the decline of the Dharma. Having created the karma that leads to the decline of the Dharma, they will go to wrong paths. Maitreya, therefore, Bodhisattvas who wish to universally protect the holy Dharma should be skilled in means, and must protect so that those sentient beings with different inclinations do not generate anger. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya to the Bhagavan.
