is not easy to offer. Friends, the body of the Tathagata is of the nature of being without outflows, therefore it is not easy to offer by those who manifestly cling to outflows. Friends, the body of the Tathagata is completely tamed by emptiness, therefore it is not easy to offer by those who cling to self, or cling to sentient beings, or cling to life, or cling to person, or cling to annihilation, or cling to permanence, or cling to self-grasping, or cling to grasping at what is mine, or cling to arising, or cling to destruction. Friends, the body of the Tathagata is of the nature of being without characteristics, therefore it is not easy to offer by the sphere of activity of characteristics. Friends, the body of the Tathagata is of the nature of being without aspirations, therefore it is not easy to offer by those who abide in aspirations. Friends, the body of the Tathagata is of the nature of being without entities, therefore it is not easy to offer by those who abide in the perception of entities. Friends, the body of the Tathagata is of the nature of being unmoving, therefore it is not easy to offer by minds that are moving and wavering. Friends, the body of the Tathagata is of the nature of being unconditioned, therefore it is not easy to offer by those who abide in conditioned things. Friends, the body of the Tathagata is of the nature of being free from desire, therefore it is not easy to offer by those who engage in desire. Friends, the body of the Tathagata is of the nature of being free from hatred, therefore it is not easy to offer by those who abide in harmful thoughts and the faults of contention. Friends, the body of the Tathagata is of the nature of being free from delusion, therefore it is not easy to offer by those who have corrupt wisdom, are deluded, and are ignorant. Friends, the body of the Tathagata is completely tamed by ethics, concentration, wisdom, liberation, and the vision of the wisdom of liberation, therefore it is not easy to offer by those who have corrupt ethics, are forgetful, have corrupt wisdom, are not liberated, and do not have the vision of the wisdom of liberation.

Because it is completely embraced by loving-kindness, joy, and equanimity, it is not easy to offer to those who are possessed by harmful thoughts, devoid of loving-kindness, devoid of joyful minds, and those who engage in distracted attention. Friends, the body of the Thus-Gone One is completely embraced by generosity, discipline, patience, diligence, meditative concentration, and wisdom, therefore it is not easy to offer to those who are miserly, of immoral conduct, malicious, with the fault of quarrels, full of anger, lazy, forgetful, and of perverse wisdom. O Auspicious One, in this way, when the two monks Dharma and Good Dharma taught the Dharma to those assemblies in such a way, from those assemblies, forty-two thousand Bodhisattvas obtained the acceptance of the Dharma of non-arising. Eighty-four thousand sentient beings generated knowledge and vision. They also subsequently attained freedom from desire and the state of non-returning. Twenty-three thousand sentient beings who had not previously generated the mind of enlightenment generated the mind towards unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. O Auspicious One, behold the two monks Dharma and Good Dharma who are endowed with such superior intention. O Auspicious One, one should train in the profound patience and skillful means of such noble beings. O Auspicious One, in this way, those two noble beings caused the monks and gods to properly grasp the profound patience, and from then on, all of them remained diligently pursuing their own benefit, and remained in few activities, and henceforth they would not go to the stupas of the Thus-Gone One. Nor would they strive for the sake of offering to the relics of the Thus-Gone One. Why is that? It is because their minds have entered into the profound Dharma itself. O Auspicious One, from then on, after seven days had passed, all those stupas of the Thus-Gone One sank into the earth. All those relics of the Thus-Gone One, as if poured into an empty husk, or as if poured into a vessel, became invisible there. O Auspicious

Therefore, I should emulate such noble beings. Kashyapa, in the future, among the monks of the Bodhisattva Vehicle and the Hearer Vehicle, there will be some who do not cultivate their bodies, do not cultivate their minds, do not cultivate their discipline, and do not cultivate their wisdom. They will think of living on the offerings of the Tathagata's relics, not for the sake of liberation from sorrow, nor for the sake of detachment from desire. They themselves are of corrupted morality, forgetful, of corrupted wisdom, not liberated, and have not seen the wisdom of liberation, but merely for the sake of survival, they will think of paying homage, drawing, and making offerings to the relics of the Tathagata, which are adorned with morality, samadhi, wisdom, liberation, and the vision of the wisdom of liberation. They themselves are full of desire, hatred, and delusion, but merely for the sake of survival, they will think of paying homage, drawing, and making offerings to the relics of the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened One, who is free from desire, free from hatred, and free from delusion. They themselves are miserly, stingy, harbor harmful thoughts, have many faults of contention, are lazy, forgetful, and without mindfulness, but merely for the sake of survival, they will think of paying homage, drawing, and making offerings to the relics of the Tathagata, the great benefactor, who abides in the true state, is in equipoise, and is of one-pointed mind. Kashyapa, I bless the relics in order to make the minds of the novice sons and daughters rejoice. Those who make offerings to them will experience the abundance of gods and humans, and this will become the cause of their ultimate nirvana. Those foolish people, having renounced this teaching, abandon and forsake what I have said to be the work of a renunciate, and only care for the purpose of nourishing themselves.
