The Noble Great Lion's Roar of Maitreya, called the Great Vehicle Sutra. The Noble Great Lion's Roar of Maitreya, called the Great Vehicle Sutra. The twenty-third chapter from the hundred-thousand chapter section of the Noble Great Heap of Jewels Dharma Teachings, which is the chapter on the Great Lion's Roar of Maitreya. Volume One. In Indian language: Ārya Maitreya Mahā Siṃhanāda Nāma Mahāyāna Sūtra. In Tibetan: The Noble Great Lion's Roar of Maitreya, called the Great Vehicle Sutra. Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Thus have I heard. At one time, the Blessed One was in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove of Prince Jeta, in the Garden of Anathapindika, together with a great Sangha of five thousand monks, and eight thousand Bodhisattvas, including Manjushri, the youth become, Avalokiteshvara, Mahasthamaprapta, Shrikosha, and Maitreya. Then, the Blessed One, surrounded by hundreds of thousands of attendants, was teaching the Dharma before them. At that time, the venerable Mahakashyapa was also assembled in that gathering and sat there. Then, the venerable Mahakashyapa rose from his seat, arranged his upper robe over one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and, with his palms joined, bowed towards the Blessed One and said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, if I may ask for permission to ask, if the Blessed One would grant me the opportunity, I would like to ask the Blessed One, the Tathagata, about some matters. After he had spoken, the Blessed One said to the venerable Mahakashyapa: Kashyapa, ask the Tathagata whatever you wish to ask, and I will satisfy your mind with predictions about what you ask. After he had been instructed, the venerable Mahakashyapa said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, if a son or daughter of good family, seeking to attain complete nirvana, goes forth into the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya, how should they train?

"Lord, how should one practice? How should one engage in yoga?" Having thus inquired, the Blessed One addressed the venerable Mahākāśyapa, saying: "Kāśyapa, well done, well done! Kāśyapa, because you have entered for the benefit of many beings, for the happiness of many beings, for compassion for the world, for the sake of the meaning, benefit, and happiness of the multitude of beings of gods and humans, that you think to ask the Tathāgata about such a matter is also well done by you! Kāśyapa, therefore, listen well and pay attention, and I will tell you. "The venerable Mahākāśyapa said to the Blessed One, "So it is, Blessed One." Having listened to the Blessed One, the Blessed One spoke to him, saying: "Kāśyapa, in this case, if a son or daughter of good family, desiring to pass into complete nirvāṇa, having gone forth into the well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya, is endowed with moral discipline, restrained by the vows of individual liberation, complete in conduct, complete in practice, viewing even the slightest faults with fear, having taken up the bases of training, they should train. Without covetousness, without hypocrisy, without flattery, without deceit, without measuring by gain, without desiring to gain by gain, endowed with a sense of shame, endowed with modesty, and endowed with caution. With a mind fearful of saṃsāra, skilled in renunciation, diligently striving for renunciation, always with a mind weary of saṃsāra, viewing nirvāṇa as beneficial, whether dwelling at the foot of a tree, or dwelling in a mountain, or dwelling in a dwelling, or dwelling in a cave, they should focus their mind on the ten aspects of the Tathāgata: namely, the Tathāgata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened One, complete in knowledge and conduct, the Well-Gone, the Knower of the World, the unsurpassed guide of beings to be tamed, the Teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha, the Blessed One, complete in lineage, complete in family.

okspa. Complete with virtuous roots. Immeasurable by discipline. Immeasurable by concentration, wisdom, liberation, and the vision of the wisdom of liberation. Immeasurable by all the Buddha's teachings. Possessing inconceivable, immeasurable, and limitless qualities of merit. Speaking the truth. Speaking correctly. Acting as he speaks. Acting without deception. Noble. Great physician. Remover of thorns. Being a spiritual friend without being asked. Endowed with compassion. Being a great leader. That is the Dharma of Nirvana. Appearing deep as deep. Showing peace as peace. Empty. Without sentient beings. Without confusion. Without characteristics. Characteristics are truly cut off. Without aspirations. Separated from aspirations. Without elaboration. Separated from elaboration. Difficult to see. Difficult to realize. Approaching. Separated from things. Solitary. Separated from solitude. Without things. Not defiled by things. Without wandering. Wandering is truly cut off. Separated from going. Unspeakable. Separated from speaking. Without arrogance. Universally shown. Without turbidity. Separated from turbidity. Without taking. Without abandoning. Suffering is near to peace. Showing that craving is truly cut off. Truly showing. Thus, contemplate the aspects. Shariputra, a monk goes alone to a solitary place. Having entered into correct concentration inwardly, one should contemplate the aspects of the Tathagata in this way: 'I have obtained a human body and have gone forth, and I have also obtained the nature of a fully ordained monk. I have also pleased the Tathagata, so it is not fitting for me to be lazy and dwell distracted by the noise of various activities.' Why is that? The time will also come when I will die without having attained the fruit, and such a place will also come. The Buddhas, the Bhagavat, are like the udumbara flower, one in a hundred appears in the world, so if that is the case, I have now appeared, and I have not pleased the future Buddhas, the Bhagavat.'
