It should be done. Kashyapa, regarding this, a bhikkhu should train in the way of you and the venerable Rahula. Kashyapa, for example, when you and I have not seen or heard, there are arhats, perfectly enlightened Buddhas abiding in the world, and when training in their going forth, Kashyapa, you become adorned in this Dharma and Vinaya. Those who directly see the Tathagata, and having seen him, also come near, and request the matter of a bhikkhu for going forth and full ordination, their going forth is also known by the Tathagata thereafter. A son or daughter of good family, seeing the sake of two benefits, should promise to go forth in the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya. What are the two? Namely, that in this life one will obtain the fruit, and in the future, I will become the cause of seeing the Buddha's Dharma. Kashyapa, some foolish people, in the presence of the Tathagata, wear kasaya robes, promise the matter of a bhikkhu for going forth and full ordination, and having taken the trainings, go to a dwelling or a cave, close the door, and make discriminations about discriminations of desire, discriminations of harmful thoughts, discriminations of violence, discriminations about the bowl and Dharma robes, and also make discriminations about the house of friends and the house of begging alms. They also think thus: we are not known, seen, or discriminated by the Tathagata. They also think thus. Kashyapa, whenever a bhikkhu is dwelling in a dwelling, or dwelling in a cave, or walking, whether it be discriminations of desire, or discriminations of harmful thoughts, or discriminations of violence, or various kinds of unwholesome discriminations that he makes, at that time, in that dwelling or cave or walking place, whatever gods who have always dwelt there, they know the mind of that bhikkhu with their minds, and they think thus: for what reason has this bhikkhu well spoken

Having renounced in the Dharma-Vinaya spoken by me, one becomes displeased, suffers, and feels uncomfortable thinking that it is inappropriate to contemplate such sinful and unwholesome thoughts. Kashyapa, some of those gods even encourage him, while others, recognizing that he is not a vessel, dwell despising him. Kashyapa, look! Even those gods who possess small roots of virtue and small wisdom know the minds of others, what need is there to mention the Tathagata who has practiced well for countless billions of trillions of eons? Kashyapa, there is nothing that the Tathagata does not know, does not see, does not understand, or does not manifest. Kashyapa, the Tathagata possesses unobstructed wisdom regarding the five knowable things of the past, the future, the present, liberation from time, and the unspeakable, and is free from doubt. Kashyapa, therefore, a son or daughter of good family, having renounced in the well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya, should know that they depend on themselves, and that the Tathagata also knows my mind with his mind. Those Buddhas, the Bhagavat, who dwell and live in the ten directions, in limitless and boundless world realms, also know my mind with their minds. Since I have renounced in the teachings of the Tathagata, I should not become a thief of the Shramanas. Kashyapa, what is a thief of the Shramanas? These four are thieves of the Shramanas. What are the four? Kashyapa, here, a Bhikshu dwells in the color, signs, and form of a Shramana, but he is immoral and of sinful nature, this is the first thief of the Shramanas. Having gone to a secluded place and dwelling there, he contemplates unwholesome thoughts, this is the second thief of the Shramanas. Knowing that he has not attained the fruit and is still an ordinary person, yet desiring gain, respect, and praise, he overwhelms others with arrogance, claiming himself to be an Arhat in front of others.

If one claims to be, that is the third theft of a renunciate. If one praises oneself and slanders others, that is the fourth theft of a renunciate. These four light-protectors are the thefts of renunciates. Light-protector, if there arises someone who is not violent, rude, possessing violent actions, possessing weak strength, possessing great power. How many people of Jambudvipa does that light-protector strike with a stick, hit with a weapon, strike with a fist and defeat? Or enjoy the close enjoyments, such as guests, gold, jewels, pearls, lapis lazuli, conch shells, agate, coral, red pearls, silver, various precious things, houses, vehicles, clothes, food, drinks, bedding, the close enjoyments of beds, complete enjoyments, joy, and the enjoyments of play, if they are all destroyed, plundered, and taken away. Light-protector, what do you think? Does that person generate much non-merit from that basis? Light-protector replied: Blessed One, much is generated. Well-gone One, much is generated. The Blessed One said: Light-protector, you should believe, you should understand. If someone clearly knows that they have not attained the fruit and are an ordinary person, but because they desire gain, respect, and reverence, are controlled by arrogance, and claim to be a stream-enterer in front of others, even if they enjoy a single alms, then they will generate a much greater heap of non-merit, then they will generate an inexhaustible heap of non-merit. Then, the venerable great Light-protector said this to the Blessed One: Blessed One, how rare is the Dharma taught by the Tathagata with examples, held by examples! Blessed One, having heard such a precious example, who would, without having attained the fruit, even accept a little water offered with faith? The Blessed One said: Light-protector, it is so.
