Therefore, one will not be liberated from that. Maitreya, I have completely abandoned such worldly comforts in order to truly reveal the precious Dharma, the bliss that transcends the world. Upon hearing this, the suffering of sentient beings will be permanently pacified. Maitreya, therefore, you too should follow my example and not be seduced by worldly affairs, but rather devote yourself to the Dharma. Maitreya, also, in the future, in the final five hundred years of the degenerate age, when the time comes when the sacred Dharma will decline, there will arise some who claim to be Bodhisattvas. They will increasingly commit transgressions, and by not restraining their body, speech, and mind, they will increasingly engage in sinful actions, thinking that they will be purified merely by confessing their misdeeds. They will not even try to keep all the vows, nor will they take vows in order to keep them perfectly. I have taught the Dharma of the Three Heaps in order to exhaust the sinful deeds previously committed. However, those foolish people will accumulate even more causes for downfall, thinking that they will be purified merely by confessing and indulging, and they will not keep all the vows. Maitreya, furthermore, I (say that) the sons or daughters of the Bodhisattva lineage, because of accumulating and completing virtuous deeds, small non-virtuous deeds cannot cause a Bodhisattva to fall into the hells, the animal realm, the realm of Yama, or various other forms of suffering such as poverty. However, the Bodhisattva should quickly eliminate (evil deeds) and possess a sense of shame, desire to learn, fear of the afterlife, feel disgusted with purity, and be terrified of all places of birth in samsara. Why is that? Maitreya, because the Bodhisattva must cross over (samsara) in order to liberate all of you; from liberation to liberation; from breathing to relief; from complete nirvana to complete peace. Householders and, ascetics and Brahmins, etc., on the great earth of the world, how many deeds of a Bodhisattva, how many burdens, how many needs, how many meanings, and how many actions, those are not seen in some beings. Maitreya, for example, someone places the realm of the three thousand great thousand worlds, including rocks, mountains, oceans, rivers, and forests, on the head or shoulders of someone, and says this: 'Hey, man, you lift the realm of the three thousand great thousand worlds, including rocks, mountains, oceans, rivers, and forests, and do not put it down, do not rest, until one kalpa, or more than one kalpa, or a hundred kalpas, or a thousand kalpas, or a million kalpas.' Maitreya, what do you think? Is that person's burden great, and is the joy endowed with power, and is the ability endowed with power, and is the diligence endowed with power? Maitreya, for example, a householder has an only son, very beloved, very cherished, pleasing, and delightful to see. That householder, due to some fault, along with his only son, wife, servants, and those who live by him, and all his wealth, property, and belongings, are brought to the king's palace. Then, the king says to that householder, "Hey, householder, a hundred thousand yojanas from here, there is a city called 'Great Cow'. For this matter, go there in seven days to get a certificate, and then return to me in seven days. In that case, this only son of yours, this wife, all these attendants, and all these wealth, property, and belongings will be returned to you. Furthermore, I will additionally grant you half of the kingdom." If he goes to that city to get the certificate, but does not return within seven days, then not only will nothing be given to him, but he, along with his only son, wife, and attendants, will be punished with dismemberment, lose their lives, and be killed. Maitreya, what do you think? When that householder hears such a command, because he loves himself, loves his son, loves his wife, loves his attendants, and loves his wealth, will he go to that city with great effort and swift speed? Maitreya replied: Blessed One, that is indeed so. Sugata, that is indeed so. As I understand the Blessed One's words, until the matter is completely accomplished, he will not let his mind wander, will not generate thoughts of food, and will not generate drowsiness and sleep.
