is without manifest pride. A householder takes wealth as their essence, while an ordained person takes virtue as their essence. A householder is like a plague, while an ordained person is one who pacifies the plague. A householder is easy to find, while an ordained person is difficult to find even in hundreds of thousands of kalpas. A householder is easy to do, while an ordained person is difficult to do. A householder goes with the current, while an ordained person goes against the current. A householder is a river, while an ordained person is a boat. A householder is a river of afflictions, while an ordained person is a bridge. A householder is the shore of this side, while an ordained person is the shore of the other side. A householder is a gap, while an ordained person is a gap in the earth. A householder is engaged in business in all directions, while an ordained person is engaged in four businesses. A householder acts like a king's servant, while an ordained person acts according to the Buddha's teachings. A householder is like a fading sun, while an ordained person acts according to the Buddha's teachings. A householder is distressed, while an ordained person is without distress. A householder is the source of suffering, while an ordained person is accompanied by faith and aspiration. A householder is like a prison, while an ordained person is liberated from prison. A householder cherishes harming others, while an ordained person cherishes benefiting others. A householder greatly clings to material offerings, while an ordained person greatly clings to Dharma offerings. A householder holds the banner of Mara, while an ordained person desires to abandon all aggregates. A householder is dense, while an ordained person is liberated from density. Thus, a bodhisattva householder should incline towards ordination. Furthermore, if I were to make offerings of clouds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River for many days, and completely relinquish all possessions, all of that would not surpass the mind of ordination that overwhelms the well-spoken Vinaya Pitaka. One should generate such a thought. Why is that?
