In all the pleasure gardens, ninety-nine hundred thousand jewels worth countless rays of light were placed, and the light from those jewels illuminated the entire world. In that pleasure garden of the Protector of the Land, there were flocks of birds that spoke in human language, such as parrots, partridges, cuckoos, peacocks, swans, geese, cormorants, kalavinkas, and magpies. When they uttered sounds and noises, sounds arose as if they were satisfying the gods of the pleasure garden. For the enjoyment of the youth, foods of five hundred flavors, complete with all kinds of delicacies, were always prepared. At that time, youths aged sixteen to twenty were gathered from all the cities and placed in that city. All of them were skilled in crafts and work, and all of them knew worldly pleasures and entertainment activities. Eighty kinds of skills were placed in that city. The two parents gave him a million daughters. Relatives and friends gave him a million, the townspeople gave him a million, and all the kings gave a million daughters. All of them were beautiful in form, beautiful, and pleasing to behold. All of them were sixteen years old, skilled in singing, proficient in music, skilled in dancing, proficient in drumming, skilled in going to men, upright, young, gentle, with soft limbs, speaking frankly, with smiling faces, well-mannered, skilled in all artistic activities. They were neither too tall nor too short, neither too thin nor too fat, neither too white nor too dark, the fragrance of utpala flowers emanated from their mouths, the scent of sandalwood emanated from their bodies, they were as radiant as goddesses, and the young prince, the light of merit, resided among those who sang with a very pleasing demeanor. To the songs and the sounds of music, alas! A great assembly unfriendly to me, and things that cause my virtuous Dharma to completely decline have appeared, not worth beholding.

A mind arose, thinking, "Oh." At that time, it was like this: for example, just as one does not feel amazed if one does not see the person to be killed, so too, the young prince, Radiance of Merit, did not find those women amazing when he saw them. Nor did he find the city amazing when he was with his friends. During those ten years, he thought, "When will I be liberated in these kinds of clothes when I am not friendly?" and "When will I act with mindfulness and be certain that I will be liberated?" Apart from entering such a happy state of mind, he never grasped at the characteristics of form. Similarly, he grasped at the characteristics of sound, the characteristics of smell, the characteristics of taste, and the characteristics of touch. Then, those girls treated King Radiance as if he were a young god. He did not rejoice. He did not indulge in pleasures, so he said. The third volume ends. The Protector of the Land, then King Radiance, together with eighty thousand kings, went to where the young prince, Radiance of Merit, was. Having arrived, with tears streaming down his face and trembling, he fell to the ground in sorrow. He rose and spoke to the young prince, Radiance of Merit, in verse: Child, precious jewel, look at me and speak. I am tormented by sorrow and have fallen to the ground in the house. Who has made you unhappy? Quickly tell me the reason. I will cut him down here with a large wine barrel. For your sake, I say here whatever pleases the mind. Look at that delightful city, like a heavenly palace. What is missing here? Tell me quickly. Today I show you wealth like that of Indra. Beautiful one with lotus eyes, sorrowful and weak. Look at the groups of women like daughters of the gods. Subdue your sorrow and play with them today. Why are you afflicted as if pierced by pain, with a weakened body and a despondent mind? They are very happy, skilled in demeanor, and their voices are melodious. They know the timing of songs, drums, and rhythms. Now is the time for you to be happy, do not be sad. Why are you weakened there like a withered lotus? A pleasure grove with flowers, fruits, branches, and spreading petals. Various things are placed on top, like various chariots of the gods. Think about it.
