The Noble Sūtra of the Great Vehicle named "The Questions of Ārya Rāṣṭrapāla". The Noble Sūtra of the Great Vehicle named "The Questions of Ārya Rāṣṭrapāla". In Sanskrit: Ārya-rāṣṭra-pāla-paripṛcchā-nāma-mahāyāna-sūtra. In Tibetan: འཕགས་པ་ཡུལ་འཁོར་སྐྱོང་གིས་ཞུས་པ་ཞེས་བྱ་ཐེག་པ་ཆེན་པོའི་མདོ། (’phags pa yul ’khor skyong gis zhus pa zhes bya theg pa chen po’i mdo.) I prostrate to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Thus have I heard. At one time, the Blessed One was dwelling in Rājagṛha on Vulture Peak Mountain, together with a great community of monks, consisting of one thousand two hundred and fifty monks, and five thousand Bodhisattvas, all possessing unobstructed eloquence, having attained patience, having vanquished the Māras and adversaries, being extremely close to all the Buddha's teachings, being bound by only one more birth, having obtained dhāraṇīs, having obtained samādhi, having obtained infinite eloquence, having obtained fearless non-obstruction, having gone beyond the power of miraculous abilities and supreme dominion, and being entirely inexhaustible treasuries of all qualities, namely: the Bodhisattva Mahāsattvas Samantabhadra, Samantākṣa, Samantadarśana, Samantālokaraśmi, Samantaprabha, Uttamamati, Vardhanamati, Anantamati, Vipulamati, Akṣayamati, Dharādhara, Jagaddhara, Jinamati, Viśeṣamati, the Bodhisattva Mahāsattva Dhāraṇīśvararāja, Mañjuśrī and sixty other incomparable beings, Bhadrapāla and sixteen other noble individuals, Brahmā, the lord of the Sahā world, Indra, the lord of the gods, the Four Great Kings who protect the world, the son of the gods Suvarṇavarṇa, the son of the gods Sumatisaṃsthita, all the lords of the gods, all the lords of the nāgas, the lords of the kinnaras, the lords of the gandharvas, the lords of the yakṣas, the lords of the asuras, the lords of the garuḍas, all of whom were attended by hundreds of thousands of retinues, and together with those assembled retinues, they were dwelling in one place. Then, the Blessed One was seated on a lion throne of glorious essence, gathered like Mount Meru in the midst of the entire circle of attendants.

He also stayed together with those present. Then, the Bhagavan (Blessed One) sat on the lion throne of the essence of auspiciousness, like Mount Sumeru, he was manifestly superior to all the mandala of attendants, like the sun, he illuminated all the worlds, like the moon, he illuminated all beings, and like Brahma, he dwelt in perfect peace. Like Indra, his body was difficult to approach. Like a Chakravartin, he possessed the seven precious jewels of the limbs of enlightenment. Like a lion, he proclaimed all dharmas to be without self and empty. Like a great heap of fire, he possessed a body that illuminated all beings. Like a jewel king who had gathered all the precious jewels that manifest all the gods, his splendor blazed exceedingly, and he filled the entire three-thousand-great-thousand world with light. The meaning was extremely clear, and he had reached the sacred shore of all dharmas. Dwelling among the retinue, he taught the Dharma with a voice that proclaimed the sound of Brahma, making it understandable to all sentient beings, practicing pure conduct, good in the beginning, good in the middle, with good meaning, good words, unmixed, completely perfect, completely pure, completely tamed, and truly declared. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva named King of Supreme Joy gathered in that same retinue. He saw the Bhagavan seated on the lion throne, with a light that surpassed emptiness, overwhelming all the mandalas of the retinue, and dwelling very brightly. With joy, delight, and a mind of faith and aspiration, he rose from his seat, folded his palms, and praised the Bhagavan with these verses that conformed to the ritual: Gods, Asuras, and non-humans, Nagas, Shravakas, and the sons of the Buddhas, these beings, by the Victor's vast radiance, are overwhelmed by you, you are as clear as a golden mountain. Even residing in the middle of the ocean, you are extremely beautiful, like Mount Sumeru, the abode of the assembly of gods. He dwells in the midst of the ocean of compassion, radiating thousands upon thousands of rays of light. Like Brahma dwelling in the realm of Brahma, like the manifestation dwelling in front of Brahma.
