Thus, one should completely seek the Dharma that is completely pure in discipline and that increases the merit of practice. One should not completely seek the Dharma that is without desire and that does not understand the Dharma. One should completely seek the pacification of desire, and not seek the increase of desire. One should completely seek the destruction of hatred, and not seek the increase of hatred. One should completely seek the cutting off of delusion, and not seek the generation of delusion. One should completely seek the destruction of pride, and not completely seek the abandonment of pride. One should completely seek the destruction of arrogance, and not completely seek the increase of arrogance. One should completely seek the abandonment of the Dharma of self and self-grasping, and not completely seek the increase of the Dharma of self and self-grasping. One should completely seek the Dharma of selflessness, and not completely seek the self, the person, the sentient being, or the life force. One should completely seek the Dharma that will always lead to the attainment of great wisdom, and not completely seek the Dharma that will lead to the decline of great wisdom. One should completely seek the Dharma that will always lead to the attainment of unequaled wisdom, and not completely seek the Dharma that will lead to the attainment of small wisdom. One should completely seek all the Dharmas that will lead to the attainment of all perfections, and not completely seek the Dharmas that will not lead to the perfection of qualities. Having thus completely sought the Dharma, one should also read it, recite it, properly attend to it, properly attend to it as it has been shown, practice it, and also truly reveal it to other beings. However, one should not completely seek worldly gain, nor even completely seek the mere praise of saying "good," thereby establishing many sentient beings in that Dharma. Any Bodhisattva who possesses these three Dharmas will attain all the perfections of qualities. Then, at that time, the Bhagavan spoke in verse: A Bodhisattva who has gone forth, discipline

Those who have practiced generate joy. Therefore, when wisdom increases, it causes the rain of wisdom to fall. After hearing the pure and profound Dharma, contemplate its meaning with correct mindfulness. As it is taught, so it is practiced truthfully. Constantly with a pure mind, extensively teach others, benefiting many sentient beings, yet without the slightest attachment in one's own mind. After realizing the nature of all virtues, abiding oneself in that Dharma, and also causing others to abide in it, therefore, the Buddha's Dharma can be increased. In immeasurable kalpas, the many merits that have been accumulated will all be manifested, protecting and leading into the path of Bodhi. Therefore, the profound Dharma praised by the Buddha should be sought in its entirety, and constantly taught to sentient beings, from which all virtues arise. Whoever, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, if he can well protect the precepts and abide in the Dharma that has been practiced, then all roots of virtue will be endowed with complete merit. Whoever, in the past immeasurable kalpas, boundless and endless, inconceivable and extremely inconceivable kalpas, at that time, the Tathagata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha, Vidyacharanasampanna, Sugata, Lokavid, Anuttara-purusa-damya-sarathi, Sasta Devanam Manusyanam, Buddha, Bhagavan, named Medogandha Buddha appeared in the world, the lifespan of that Bhagavan was sixty years. Each time he assembled and taught the Dharma, eighty kotis of Shravakas attained the fruit of Arhatship. Whoever, after the Tathagata Medogandha entered Parinirvana, the true Dharma remained in the world for five years. After that Tathagata entered Parinirvana, within seven days, most of the great Shravakas also followed the Tathagata into Nirvana. Whoever, the Tathagata appeared in the world as it is in the age of the five degenerations. After the great Shravakas entered Nirvana, at that time, the people
