Furthermore, engaging with ignorance towards things that are neither agreeable nor disagreeable will cause ignorance to arise. Similarly, experiencing sounds, smells, tastes, and tactile sensations with the three aspects of the Dharma as objects will lead to attachment, anger, and ignorance. Engaging with attachment towards agreeable phenomena known by the mind will cause desire to arise. Engaging with anger towards disagreeable phenomena will cause hatred to arise. Engaging with ignorance towards phenomena that are neither agreeable nor disagreeable will cause ignorance to arise. Great King, the senses should be understood as illusions, and the objects as dreams. Great King, for example, if a person dreams of enjoying pleasures with a beautiful woman while sleeping, and when he wakes up, he remembers that beautiful woman, what do you think, Great King? Does that beautiful woman seen in the dream exist? Reporting: Blessed One, she does not exist. The Buddha said: Great King, what do you think? Is the person who, in a dream, plays, rejoices, and is infatuated with the woman he dreams of, a wise person? Reporting: Blessed One, he is not. Why is that? Blessed One, the beautiful woman seen in the dream is completely non-existent and invisible, how could he possibly enjoy pleasures with her? Otherwise, the person who is infatuated with her will be impoverished and exhausted. The Blessed One said: Great King, similarly, when ignorant ordinary people see forms with their eyes, they become strongly attached to things that are pleasing. Because of strong attachment, they develop craving. Having developed craving, they become completely attached. Having become completely attached, they accumulate karma born from desire, with the body performing three or four actions, and the mind performing three actions. And that accumulated karma, from the very beginning,

The earth is exhausted, ceased, separated, and transformed, not relying on the east to exist. It does not rely on the south, west, below, above, and all directions to exist. This is not, father is not, bardo is not. At other times, when the time of death is near, the power of life ceases, life is completely exhausted, and those karmas of similar fate are also exhausted. When the last consciousness ceases, it is like a beautiful woman waking up from sleep, and it will be perceived by the mind. Great King, for that power of the last consciousness and the appearance of karma, the first consciousness belonging to the category of being born from two causes will arise, either in the hell of sentient beings, or in the birthplace of animals, or in the world of Yama, or in the class of Asuras, or among humans, or among gods. That which belongs to the category of the first consciousness arising, immediately after it ceases, without interruption, the fate of the stream of consciousness that will experience the ripening result will also arise. Therefore, that which is the cessation of the last consciousness is counted as death. That which is the arising of the first consciousness is called birth. Great King, in this way, no dharma is transferred from this world to another world, but death and birth are evident. Great King, that last consciousness does not come from anywhere at the time of birth, nor does it go anywhere at the time of cessation. Karma does not come from anywhere at the time of birth, nor does it go anywhere at the time of cessation. The first consciousness does not come from anywhere at the time of birth, nor does it go anywhere at the time of cessation. Why is that? Because there is no self-nature. The last consciousness is empty, empty with the last consciousness. Karma is empty, empty with karma. The first consciousness is empty, empty with the first consciousness. Death is empty, empty with death. Birth is empty, empty with birth. However, karma will not be without result, and experiencing the ripening result is also evident. Therefore, apart from the mere convention of names, there is no actor or enjoyer. Great King

Great king, for example, if someone dreams of fighting with an enemy in a dream while sleeping, and remembers it after waking up, what do you think of that? Is the one seen in the dream the enemy? Did he fight with that enemy? He replied: Blessed One, it is not. The Buddha said: Great king, what do you think? If someone is attached to the enemy in the dream, or fights with the enemy, is that not the behavior of a wise person? He replied: Blessed One, it is not. Why is that? Blessed One, the enemy seen in the dream does not exist at all, and cannot be found, let alone fight with him? Furthermore, if someone is attached to that enemy, then he will become poor and tired. The Blessed One said: Great king, similarly, those ordinary people who are learned, when the eye sees pleasing forms, they will also become attached. Having become attached, they will become angry, having become angry, they will become hateful, having become hateful, they will then perform actions arising from hatred, the body performing three kinds, the speech performing four kinds, and the mind performing three kinds. The actions that are performed also cease, perish, separate, and change from the very beginning. They do not exist relying on the east, nor do they exist relying on the south, west, north, below, above, and the intermediate directions. They do not exist here, they do not exist there, and they do not exist in the intermediate state. When the time of death is near, the life force ceases, and life is completely exhausted, and those similar actions are also exhausted. When the last consciousness ceases, it is like waking up from sleep and fighting with an enemy, it will be apprehended by the mind. Great king, due to the power of that last consciousness, and the object of the action, and the two conditions, the first consciousness belonging to the category of birth arises, and is counted as being born. As soon as that first consciousness ceases, without interruption, there will arise a similar stream of manifest mind that will experience the ripening of karma. For that which
