It became so. When he resided in Jambudvipa, all directions became illuminated. Even the light of the sun was subdued, just like the light of the moon is subdued by the sun. The sun in the sky was no longer bright either, just as the moon's halo remains in the sky, invisible when subdued by the sun. Then, those who lived in the fragments of palaces that the city could not accommodate saw the king go to that garden. Having seen him, they were amazed. They returned to the city and said, "Friends, it is as if a divine being has descended from the sky and gone to the king's garden." They spoke thus and spread the word. The great king, having heard this news, together with his subjects and courtiers, with the fastest speed, carrying songs, music, flowers, incense, garlands, incense, unguents, umbrellas, banners, flags, and streamers, with pure conduct, came out of the city and went to that garden. Great king, as soon as the King Born from Me sat in that garden, this great earth also shook in six ways. Great king, then the subjects and courtiers, because of the extraordinary human scent emanating from the King Born from Me, approached him. The King Born from Me, accustomed to heavenly pleasures, could not bear human pleasures, so he sank into the ground and could not stay. Just as a lump of butter or a lump of butter dregs melts and cannot stay when placed on hot sand. The subjects and courtiers, seeing him disappear, asked, "Who are you?" Then, the King Born from Me said to the king and all the subjects, "Have you heard of someone called the King Born from Me?" They replied, "We have heard from the elders that someone called the King Born from Me, with his body and four divisions of the army, ascended to the heavens together." The King Born from Me said to them, "Friends!"

The king named I-la-nu, that is me. Having fallen from the heavens, he said. Then the king and all the people of the country, with verses of song, said to him: We have heard from the elders that the lord of men has great miraculous powers, free from sorrow and with great fame. I-la-nu has appeared. He, with chariots and armies, and attendants, departed from the heavens to the world. The chief of men dwells in the abode of the gods, and also protects the land of Dharma, we have heard. Having said that, that lord of men, because of the danger of impermanence, became impoverished. Showing happiness, he obtained suffering. That king is me. Having said "I", all the people joined their palms and touched his feet. O King, what we say, please grant us your wonderful and amazing teachings. Having said that, the king fell from the gods. Listen to the wonder of finding suffering. Those who desire happiness for a long time should always be mindful. I-la-nu is the best of kings. The king showed the four continents, possessing the best of desired enjoyments, but he passed away without being satisfied by desire. In the seven places in his house, a rain of nets of jewels fell. Having shown the four continents, he was not satisfied by desire, and he sank. The king sat on half of the seat of Indra, the lord of the gods. Destroyed by the thoughts of constant contemplation, he declined after destroying self-desire and pride. Unwise people also sink in this ocean of samsara. If one excessively indulges in desires, one will not find the satisfaction praised by the Victorious Ones. Like water seen in a dream, even if drunk, it will not be satisfying. Likewise, if one indulges in the enjoyments of desire, one will never be satisfied. Those who possess intelligence, having dispelled the darkness of ignorance, in order to be satisfied, should correctly realize the noble wisdom of the Blessed One. Possessing the wisdom to destroy existence, contemplate old age, death, and birth. Having completely abandoned craving, one abandons existence and does not take rebirth. Recognize the appearance of feeling as like fire, and having recognized touch as different from fire, one should not crave that feeling and touch that are not noble. Like the striking of a musical cymbal, one does not engage with objects and senses. Those who practice the Buddha's teachings understand the senses, see their nature, and abandon the senses.
